I once opened for Pat Travers. Anyone know who he is? I didn't think so. )

Ahhh yes......... PT. Wonder if the snortin' whiskey and drinkin' cocaine ever caught up with him?

I've played several instruments in my illustrious musical career. I started out playing violin when I was 3. Moved on to the piano at age 7. I played the alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones from 5th grade until 10 grade in orchestra and jazz band. Lastly I have been playing guitar for the past 15 years. The axe arsenal consists of:

Ritchie Sambora Custom Signature Stratocaster

Ibanez "P" style bass

Westone Electra 6 string electric. (plays great, sounds better!)

Peavey Classic 50 with Behringer 4X12 cabinet

Digitech RP-12 tube-driven Guitar effects processor

I once snuck in to a bar when I was 16 to see Pat Travers. What a great show! Boom-Boom, OUT GO THE LIGHTS!

Well....I won't say I'm a "failed" musician, since I only play for myself and for fun....

But, I have been playing guitar for 30+ years, and still get a charge out of it. Hard core rock ONLY!!

I think it was Bluestreak who mentioned you can't get good guitars made in the USA anymore. I beg to differ. CARVIN makes kick a$$ stuff. From guitars to pro sound gear. All in San Diego. Your problem was going shopping at Guitar Center. Probably the worst place to go looking for a quality guitar. I've sold everything else and now only have Carvin. One C980 acoustic, one SC90S electric and a Bel Air 212 Vintage all tube amp. I do have a Korg/ToneWorks Ampworks digital amp modeler, for use when I'm stuck in hotel rooms or someplace where I can only use headphones to play through. It does a great job of modeling various amp, cabinet and effects combos....all in a little 6 x 3 in box.

Tenor saxaphone and clarinet when I was a kid. Now I dabble with classical/flamenco on guitar and blugrass on five-string banjo. (Is there anything else?) I wish I had more time for both instruments. Lots of fun.

Ukulele, and some guitar.
My electric uke is da bestest! Carved it out of a solid block of curly koa, and it is soooolid.

Hi folks, my first thread on this forum!

I am also amazed at how many pilots are or were musicians.

I am a trombone (also play baritone horn, tuba and trumpet) player, and even got a scholarship to Hofstra University with it. I played on a semi professional basis around Long Island, back in the early to mid '80's, right up until I got my first real commuter job, and that was more or less the end of my music career! Music was and is fun, but my lifelong dream was always to become a pilot. FWIW, I made the right choice.

I've started teaching myself guitar in the last year, and I love it. I harbor NO illusions of becoming a rock star (well, my wife, kids and neighbors might disagree........ the volume is there, if not the ability!) but it's lots of fun!

Yes, I must admit that I am a John Entwistle wannabe.

Gotta love Ox!

I am a bit of a Pete Townshend wannabe (the music part.....I can do without the drug/drinking problems, not to mention the other recent stuff! I think I could deal with the groupies though!). I've recently gotten a Gibson Pete Townshend Signature SG. What a wonderful axe! I've almost got Young Man Blues and Won't Get Fooled Again down.....

I've been playing guitar since grade school. I saw a Dokken concert back then and George Lynch just blew me away. I thought, I have to learn to play like him. My musical taste changed since then (was in several hardcore/metal bands) but I still play. Never really wanted to become pro but it was still fun. I've owned several guitars but really like ESP and my old KRAMER when they were still built in the US. Would love to get back in a band again just to jam but trying to align everyone's schedule is almost impossible. Ahh, the good old days!

Not ME, however Dick Dale flies a C-337. Has his own strip.

I played keyboards in a ska band in the late 1980's. Went on tour, opened for Fishbone, Ziggy Marley, Ramones. Headlined CBGB's a few times (good times!) Also put out 2 albums on an independant label. Then I realized I was just distracting myself from my childhood dream of flying. Said goodbye to the groupies, finished college and went to flight school.

Ah, but the memories!

Great thread! I was in a band for years with another guy on this board. We had a record deal, toured everywhere from Alaska to Florida, Europe even Russia. But ,alas, 5 years and no hit single means I had to find another career. Used my last royalty payment to help pay for flying lessons. It's great flying around the country and seeing all the venues we used to play.

Okay, I guess I've turned into an out-of-touch old fart prematurely.

Ska?
