F9 questions

Any F9 drivers,

Congratulations on all the growth. Anyway I was curious what all if anything in the new Frontier has similarities from the original Frontier..i.e. management, cockpit / ramp environment, culture etc.

I was curious because my father and many of our long-time family friends were all part of the original Frontier Family. It has been my goal since I was a kid to get back to Denver and join the team. Right now I'm at the regionals waiting on an upgrade this summer so hopfully in a couple of years I will be competitive.

Any info on F9 would be much appreciated.

Thanks. I read through the site. It all looks great. Does anyone have info beyond what is on aviationinterveiws.com regarding competitive times, preferences, upgrade, etc. I am considering starting a Masters to add another feather to the hat.

My limited information . . .

I will go through your post piece by piece and try to offer my answers. I have only been at Frontier a month, but to the best of my knowledge:

Management: The new F9 was started by almost everybody at the old F9 except for the one guy who destroyed it (you know who). There have been departures and additions since then, but you get the drift.

Environment and Culture: Everybody that I have met and talked to has been great. I have heard that there are some that have slipped through the cracks, but I guess that would be expected anywhere. I have been waiting to jumpseat and talked to rampers and FA's, and have had great conversations with all of them. They all seem to actually be interested and concerned with how things are going for me as a new hire.

Everything else: Nothing on flight time except the minimum for the app. From what I have heard they aren't very friendly to commuters right now, but I have also heard that the next contract is going to be more commuter friendly. Upgrades? Told at the interview 4 years. Told in training a little under 3 years. It all depends on the economy, exercised options, etc., etc.

Nobody was every hurt by getting a Masters Degree. I am looking into getting one myself.

Good luck. Frontier is a great company. Other places say it, but I truly believe it here. Keep working at it and it will happen.

I flew Frontier from MSP to LAX about a week ago.

I'll give Frontier a "12" on a scale from 1 to 10.

Excellent, excellent service.

These are the kinds of companies that should make any employee proud to be a part of.

I suggest you start applying and sending your paperwork in NOW(update every 6 mos). Rather than wait till you think you have the minimums.

I know a lot of people who have gotten hired due to their persistence, rather than their time. Get to know some F9 pilots too.

At Frontier, we are still pretty small and you could get lucky and meet an interviewer pilot or such.

It took me 6 years (a bit longer than most) to get hired. Frontier has been the best airline I have worked for.

There are no attitudes. The trips are nice. The days off are good and the pay is decent.

Most importantly the management and employee relations are good. Management tries to keep everybody in the loop.

It is a fun place to be and our service is great.

Thanks everybody for all the info. I have been gone on vacation for a few days and away from my computer. I made it back to Denver and was going to try to catch a ride with Frontier but got bumped off of three attempts before I had to try something else to get home for work. The good news was that I had a lot of good opportunities to talk to ticket agents and gate agents; they all had awesome things to say about working with the Frontier team.

I am going to start the app process now and see what happens. I know it may take awhile before anything happens but as long as I can get a shot than everything from instructing, freight, and the regionals will all be worth it. Hard Landing is one of my favorite books and the thought of working with the real Denver home town airline competing with United is awesome. I will be 27 this year and my goal is to contribute at least 30 good years with the team before retirement.
