The F-16's that I'm familiar with, have clean, sleek fuselages. A couple of days ago, I was in TUS and saw some that have rectangular additions to either side of the fuselage. They look more like Tornados than F-16's, but the tower kept pointing them out as F16's. I believe they were all two seaters.

Can anyone comment on these? What model? What are the "boxes"?

Thanks

The unit based there in Tucson trains many foreign F-16 pilots. The Emiratees were there (might still be) going through a very thorough syllabus.

i think itd be interesting to train foreign pilots.

The language barrier must be tough when "durka durka" not only means "flex those legs" but it also can mean "knock it off"

Something fun and new every day :)

Speaking of F-16's - I was using the google earth program to look for ski/mtb spots out west in Utah/Idaho and came across Hill AFB. The flight line was filled with 16's - how many are based there? How many wings/units and were they the first to get the 16 as an operational base in the late 70's?

More specifically, they are Block 60 F-16's. The CFT's have nothing to do with it being a D model(two seater).

I guess since Slice decided to get technical:

Israel and Greece: Block 50/52+ C/D models

United Arab Emirates: Block 60 E/F Models

If you were looking at a two seater it was either a D or F model.

Wow, now I feel like a dork!

Vipers suck!
Only f-16 guys call themselves 'vipers'. Yes, 'porkers' are gay.

And with those conformal tanks, they get another 10 minutes over the FEBA to perform their magical CAS and FAC missions!

Cheers!
