Also a rumor that turbine time may be a requirement, maybe even 200 hrs turbine minimum.

I wouldn't worry too much, most everyone here now didn't have much in the way of turbine time when we were hired and what do you know, we can all fly jets afterall.

Just a rumor I heard.

BTW also heard that the application process will be handled via the Internet by a third party. Guess that precludes "walking" a resume in from now on.

As a reserve captain who's been getting screwed the last two months by screw scheduling, because they seem to always be "out of reserves", they'd better hire and upgrade some more pilots soon, it's not very much fun right now.

like i said above.. just from the few posts of yours i've read, i'd GLADLY fly with steve (mcpickle) than you any day.. thank god i don't work at frontier. guess i can cross that one off my list.

you really shouldn't spout off regarding things you know nothing about.. the only fault i find with folks who paid for their training is, they wasted a lot of money. from what i've heard of the days of old at coex, just because they put down the cash didn't mean they made it.. heard lots of horror stories about the training department, checkrides, etc.

besides, this is all in the past.. why are you even bringing it up? look to the future, stop pissing on the past.

Spouting off? Read some posts around here Sparky and you'll see, most posts on the regional boards are 13 year old dufus drivel. I am sad to see another person can rationalise Buying your job, it may be "the past" to you, but not so distant a memory if you were job hunting when PFT was "all the rage". I know a GREAT number of CFI's who wated it out and didn't give in. Your friend expended a lot of time on telling others about professionalism, Buying Your Job isn't the best qualifyer on the subject and is not negotiable, feeling WIDELY heald outside the former PFT bastions. Maybe if YOU knew WTF the deal was, you'd feel differently. I really can't see how you think the practice was ant=ything but pro-management and idiotic, unless you PFT'd yourself. I know plenty and WAY too much on this one. If you feel PFT is right, then I am sure you enjoy flying at Brand X....BTW F9 is the nicest bunch of people in the biz, you may want to scratch that on off....and yes, replacing mainline jets with RJ's is bad too, but I think you are in over your your head a bit much for one night.

Well aren't you special MR 121 Captain. Of course I know PFT is bad. Thats why in our new contract we spent bargaining power to ensure that our company can never do that again. I wonder if Frontier pilot would stand up and make a provision as to that.

And we are not stupid, we understand that the more flying RJ's do the less a large a/c does. Which means the less chance we have to advance. Well that would be solved if majors would stand up and have half way decent scope, now wouldn't it!!! SO don't blame us jerka$$.

And as for our 13 year old dribble. THAN GO BACK TO THE MAJORS BOARD. Oh wait I forgot, a handfull of A-320's does not a major make. Thats why your slummin it around here. Still waiting for Frontier to make it hu?

My take on the whole PFT issue.

I look at it as a huge investment that I made in my future. If I had "stuck it out" and waited to get the 2000 TT so I didn't have to pay or waited to get hired by a non PFT airline, where would I most likely be?

I would still be in the right seat making slave wages and living in an apartment dreaming of what I might someday be able to afford.

Instead I have enough seniority to easily hold captain and have been able to make enough to pay off much of my associated debt, including the money I borrowed from my dear old grandma to pay for my training as well as buy a house and have a comfortable living by "regional pilot" standards. I think it was a pretty good investment.


As far as XJ hiring, according to a new company VM from this week, we'll be interviewing starting in January. That apparently is now a fact. No word yet about the website.

Mr. China Clipper: your whole ranting was sparked by someone who paid for his training mentioning professionalism? and you sir, feel qualified to lecture on professionalism? how 'bout a spell check, a cup of coffee and a deep breath. so you're former military, didn't pay for your training, and now are flying good equipment at a good airline... from the description, sounds like a true professional, lots of hard work and integrity. from your posts and spoutings, though, one would have a hard time linking the story with the impression you leave.

this board tends to bring out the worst in in some folks, my fault for responding in an equally bad tone. I hope that posting may help the flow of info, it seems that inaccurate and half truths abound here about many things. One faulty assumption is that people who fought, unsuccessfully, fought Ornstein and Co. are somewhat less that "professional," even in its loosest context. Nothing could be further from the truth. Uninformed people on his board have ranted long and hard about Mesa pilots and far too much "lumping" together, with the fighters and the cavers, has gone on. Most of the fanatic and vocal have NEVER, and may never be, attacked with anywhere near the ferocity that JO attacked the Mesa pilot group. They never had the reality of their livelyhood beeing turned over to a non-union airline a little bit, EVERY DAY. That slow bleeding of jobs, stress, assured furloughs and such, would be going on today, all while the traitors benefit from a prosperous future. The worst enemy we have in this line of work, is the weakness of few. They made Freedumb air possible, leaving massive collateral damage in its wake. I saw first hand what inaccurate info did to people who were considering such a move and its worthy to pass it on. Calling someone like myself, who was willing to GIVE UP his future, to kill off something like Freedumb, as "unprofessional" and much worse, is intellectually vacant. Many Mesa pilots spent most of our waking hours doing just that, and for NO personal gain, in fact, much worse; I had Mesa private investigators trying to hunt me down for vigourously defending labor and being REAL critical of JO, on a Yahoo board. Nice huh? The many other shenanigans would take hours to tell, only about 10% or so ever made it to this board. So, getting called anything other than a man of the cloth, was a bit disconcerting and having that done by someone who paid for their job, is about as much as a man can accept. And that's all I got to say about that.......

Dude, you started it . This was a thread about when CALEX will be hiring and it was turned into a thread about PFT. I myself was against PFT. I had offers from ASA and Comair as well as CALEX. A big reason for going to CALEX was because they did NOT have PFT at the time. However, had I gone to Comair or ASA I would be a captain now, and not commuting. Time will tell if we all made the correct decision.

BTW, we are trying to get a "no PFT" clause into our new contract so it will never happen again. That means we are looking out for those guys that are not even hired yet.

thanks for your explanation, China Clipper. i know it's easy to vent out, lash out, and say things anonymously, whereas in person, we'd probably just grunt something under our breath and go our separate ways.

but, i couldn't just stand by and watch one of my coworkers get blatantly bashed. he may be an idiot, but he's our idiot!

ExJet is a great airline with great people. Frontier is a great airline with great people. PFT was a career investment choice some people made when times were tough last time . . . kinda like a type for SWA, only more reliable. Orenstein and his like are the new great threat to our profession. Those who have had the opportunity to stand up to that threat and haven't done so have done us all a great disservice. McPickle, I've probably flown with you. ChinaClipper, I hope to fly with you someday. In the undying words of the illustrious Rodney King . . . "can't we all just get along".
