Here are a few questions for those in training currently or recently:
  • Internet at the hotel? (wireless/dial-up/etc..)
  • Workout facilities?
  • Attire during training?
  • First weekend off?
  • Do you need JEPP Binders? How many?
  • Breakfast at the hotel?
Thanks for the answers! I'll be there Monday and only got 5 days notice, so I am getting a little behind.

You can get dial-up in the rooms if you have a laptop, if not I'm not sure. There is a workout facility, pool, tennis and basketball court. We had all weekends off except while in the sim, think it's still the same. Dress code during training is business casual, and I believe you can wear jeans on Fri. Breakfast is provided by the hotel in the mornings. Pretty good deal, you can get just about anything. This info is from Feb when I was in training. Should still be pretty close.

Wireless internet was available when I was there....but you had to pay for access. Bring 3 jepp binders....two 2 inchers and one 1 inch works.

There is wireless in some rooms but not all, so ask when you check in. Also put your name on the list for a refrigirator. There is a microwave on the 3rd floor. Breakfast is free and they give you 10% discounts for lunch and dinner.

You'll get the first few weekends off until the sim, which run almost 24/7. Most went home for the first weekend, which is between indoc and systems. For the second weekend, most stayed. That's when things get really ramped up with systems and FTDs. The weekends after that are your call. In training, they'll fly you positive space so it takes away a lot of the stress of getting to and from IAH.

You'll need at least two 2" binders. That'll hold all your approach plates. The charts come in plastic holders they give you. Down the road I may put them in a binder. If you have or can afford Jeppesen, great. Otherwise, go to OfficeMax or Stapples and get you a couple of the small 3-ring binders for cheap. You can also look on Ebay. I bought a used Jeppesen Duraflo 2" for $9.99 plus shipping (I already had a 2"). You may also want to invest in a 1" binder. I'm still new so I haven't figured out exactly how to make my "nest" in the cockpit, but I found that the 2" binders are too bulky and dealing with loose plates is a pain in the a$$. Get a 1" binder and put in your departure, arrival and alternate charts. It makes for a lot less clutter in the cockpit. I bought a "pleather" day organizer that came with a calculator for $14 at one of the office stores and it works great. It's more plyable that a hard binder so it fits in the flightbag better.

Everyone's been great to work with and you'll enjoy the time there. Good luck.

Car?

I am coming in from Tulsa (8 hrs. away). Do you think a car is needed or is transportation adequate? Also, does anyone know how to join the ExpressJet "lounge" that can be found online? I have signed up for membership but I still haven't been invited to join. (Given password or account activated)

STAY AWAY!!!!

We are going to ******* STRIKE!

Wait until our new contract is signed. Things are getting ready to get VERY ugly over here.

First off, stay off the "Crackpipe"! I had to go cold turkey six months ago and believe me, it is not as delicious as it sounds. You will get adicted so beware.

Now I guess I should clarify what I was just talking about above. The Continental and CALEX message board's address is www.calforums.com. It is affectionately refered to as the "Crackpipe" because one toke and you are adicted. Have fun!

Also, you have to have to be on the CAL or CALEX senority list to view it.
