Cabotage? I don't see a group of foreign pilots flying domestic routes getting a warm welcome in Australia.

It'll be no warmer than the last time in '89 when a group of airline pilots from a certain US airline crossed a picket line.

Don't get me wrong, I've always thought highly of Expressjet, but this smells of desperation. Maybe the aircraft will go but not with the pilots. India would've been a much better place. There's explosive growth and a lot more opportunity.

CRIKEY! Look at the fangs on that thing! This Kenny's sure mad!

this utilization of those aircraft doesn't do anything for the current pilot group.

Sure it does.

CAL pulled flying from XJT assumming that they'd get those 69 aircraft back to give to someone else.

CAL FREAKED when XJT told them that they were keeping the AC leaving CAL scrambling for aircraft and leaving them in a pickle that to this day is still having difficulties.

Now, if you're CAL and thinking about pulling more flying from XJT(which I understand they are), you're thinking that there's no way in hell that they're actually gonna be able to find work for that many MORE jets and will be forced to return them.

XJT, in what I see to be a master stroke, just fired a warning shot across CAL's bow....essentially telling them that if they pull more flying, they're not gonna get THOSE aircraft back, either; thus making it more difficult for CAL to pull more flying and benefitting the current pilot group.

Xjt doesn't have the planes to handle the work that is being thrown at us. We keep bailing out other airlines on short notice. Jetblue, Frontier, Delta wants more, there wouldn't be too hard to find a home.... my 2cents

Here it is...
ExpressJet begins to move to Australia and the LAX ops closes down. Skywest pulls out of ATL, ASA stays and swaps out 50s for larger airframes, and moves into LAX since the UAL now allows them to.

This will beging to shape up in later part of 2008.

Bye, Bye

Personally dont think they could find Oz pilots to fly the planes. Rex is having a hard enough time as it is now.

There's plenty of guys who've paid their dues in GA for Rex, the problem is they're not prepared to work for the low wages Rex is offering.

It'd be XJT pilots, not Aussies.

Wishful thinking, it's no more likely that that happens than if the tables were turned and Rex wanted to fly here in the US with Australian pilots.

Emirates can't even get approval to fly through Australia to the US and you really think a US owned airline staffed with US pilots would be allowed to set up shop.

Then XJT better rewrite their scope clause with their pilots. Or form a separate company...

Kenny's right. How do you think the pilots of Qantas and Virgin would react. How would ALPA Australia react? Starts with Express Jet then what? Air India, Garuda, Air China, Mesa???
