It worked quite well for me. For February I was awarded a four day trip at the beginning of the month, followed by 16 days off, then a four day trip, followed by four days of vacation = 20 days off for the month total. Next month I'll have lots of time off again since my vacation runs into March and my bid will once again be complete when it reaches 65 hours during the building process.

It doesn't matter which system we use, PBS or legacy XJET line bidding, managment will find ways to work the system to their advantage. Anything can be made better, but I am very happy with PBS at the moment.

All those days off and 75 hours of pay. Wow must be nice

Worked well for me too. I only work six days in February with sixteen days off in a row and another six day off run at the beginning of the month. That was done with only one week of vacation. I would have never been able to do with the previous line bid rules that existed at ASA and still get guarantee pay before PBS

Fixed it so as to be more accurate.

Is anyone else noticing a problem here? I'm all for getting the best deal you can for yourself, but if everyone is getting full pay to get 20+ days off every month, I see long-term profitability problems for the company. Of course each individual's profit is more important to him than the overall company profitability, but if we continue extremes of poor productivity, there won't be any flying left to fight over. Just something to consider.

screw 'em, enjoying it while I can, they'll come after vac low you can betcha in the next contract, enjoy while you can

but it's ok for the Co to take advantage/ignore the contract but you don't wnat pilots to take advantage of vac low?

When did I say it's okay for the company to take advantage of/ignore the contract? How about we SIMULTANEOUSLY insist the company treats us fairly, and we also put in an honest day's work for an honest day's pay? Once again, I can't blame anyone for trying to get the most he can per the contract, but please be aware that this is unsustainable for the long term.

That may be your opinion. However, this is something the company agreed to. It was no secret that ALPA was open to PBS assuming the pilots didn't lose anything on vacation months. In addition, ALPA made it clear that any gains involved in PBS would have to be shared with the pilots. The company's finance people I'm sure were involved in the decision, and ultimately management wanted PBS with vacation low rather than no PBS.

I don't know about you, but I put in an honest days' work every day I go to work. I have had plenty of months where I have worked much higher block than I wanted to due to the staffing situation. I do not think it is too much to ask to utilize my vacation that I have earned.

XJT line bidding, January vacation. Bidding over Jan and Feb I work one 4 day in 33 days, and 75 hours of pay for both months.
Top 10% FO.

Sweptback, you are the reason unions have a black eye. I love our PBS. I love our vacation low. However, the company cannot survive in this environment long term with this vacation set up. I am taking full advantage of it, and I am working less than part time. 8 months of the year, I am averaging about 7 to 8 days of work a month. Next month for example, I am using 3 days of vacation and only working 7 days for the month.

I would love to stay home every day and just collect a check every two weeks....However this a capitalist society and a very competitive industry...This can't last....
