To you pilots that work w/ Jetlink: If you are based in Newark, and live out of base, which of the three is easiest to commute; Baltimore, Washington, D.C. or Birmingham, AL. I am wondering how many flights operate a day from these three cities into Newark that are possible for commuting. The real thing I am hitting at is; is it just as easy to commute from the southeast as from the northeast?
Thanks guys.

These are the number of flights by either XJT or CAL from your specified cites to EWR tomorrow.
BWI-EWR 5
DCA-EWR 8
IAD-EWR 6
BHM-EWR 2
From what I remember BHM-EWR flights are full most of the time too. Do you live in BHM?
Oh, and if you're an Express guy come over to our board, expressjetpilots.com.

If I were you I would choose DC.

My reason being is that you have DCA and IAD to choose from so more options. My $.02

Best of Luck,

-Nope, not an expressjet pilot, just hoping to be. I submitted a resume a couple of weeks ago. I haven't gotten a call back, and I was just thinking about places to possibly live and the ease or difficulty of commuting to the EWR base. I currently live in BHM. Thanks for the input.

I commuted out of BHM for two and half years (I am now in ATL). One month of that was to EWR. That was the WORST month for commuting of my career. With only two flights a day I was always going up a day early. However, you are pretty much guaranteed a seat since no one else commutes up there.

The commute to IAH is cake. There are six flights a day and it is only a 1+20 minute flight. When I moved eight months ago there were five Express commuters and four CAL commuters. I hardly ever saw the other guys.

If you get on with Express stay in BHM, suffer through a few months in EWR and then bid down to IAH. I loved living in there and I wish one day to move back. I am from ATL and my wife is from BHM. The only reason we moved was because she could make twice the money in ATL. Too big a carrot.

Did you get the memo we are loosing 25% of our A/C? XJT is probably not the best choice unless something weird happens and we keep the a/c AND find flying for them that makes money. If the a/c depart as advertised, you will loose you job. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of that before you joined us.

As a former jetlinker, I commuted from BWI to EWR for a while.. I flew a few times, but gave up on it quickly because it is easier to drive from BWI to EWR.. By the time that you leave your house, show up at the gate 1 hour prior to push, etc, etc.. you get the point.. It did cost a few more bones to drive but I probably broke even by not buying hotel rooms so often.. My experience was that there were alot of CX flights in the winter, and my car was more reliable from BWI!! Also much less stress on the last day of a 4 day when you know your car is waiting for you, not the commuter flight that you had 20 mins to catch if you are on time..

Good luck!
