I have put a profile online through the website. Is that all you need to do? Will they then call you to get an updated resume if interested? Thanks.

Yes, the wait is around 4 months at the time. When your profile is reviewed in 4 months, you will be asked to fax an updated resume. I know two people who were asked to send the update in, and both got a "get an ATP with a 145 type rating or 121/135 exp. and reapply in 90days".

Nova,

It's true that HR does the hiring, not the training department. But, you don't really think that they don't 'talk' to each other? They are in the same building after all!

Please dont tell me this will be the new standard, not something I can afford. Its all about supply and demand. Considering everyone is hiring you would think that the guys with 121 experience/turbine experience would eventually run out barrring abother major furlough this year...Hopefully that is.

I'd have to call BS on anyone getting a letter stating that they wanted an ATP w/145 type.

Okay, here is the story. I had a 5 min conversation with Dawn Daniels in the XJT lunch room less than 24 hours ago...so this is right from the horse's mouth. The only reason that I talked to her is because I have a friend who is trying to submit an application. Dawn told me that the minimums to be accepted into the online application are 600tt/100me...however, when you get a call in 3-4 months, you need to have atleast 1000tt/200me...In addition to that, she said that if you are a flight instructor, you will not be considered, unless you have done something else for atleast 6 months (i.e. charter, night freight, etc.) It is true that in the past months, XJT has been hiring flight instructors with 600tt, but that is over now, atleast until they get desperate again. I know that this sucks, but I think that the reason for this is because they have a lot of furloughed 121 pilots in the resume file right now, so they can be picky. We have had a ton of Independence guys and gals going through training over the past 2 months. Also, I have heard that a lot of the guys who have come right from flight instructing recently have had trouble getting through training, which costs the company $$$, when they have to either retrain them or wash them out after spending training money on them. Sorry guys, just hang in there...In about six months or a year, the tables will probably turn again in your favor. Just be patient. PM me if you have any questions that I can help you with. Oh, and for those of you who don't know, Dawn Daniels is the head pilot recruiter for XJT.

In response to preferential hiring, XJT is giving preferential hiring to furloughed 121 pilots. If you apply under the furloughed link, you will get a call in a day or two. If you apply normally you will get a call in about 4 months. And a word of warning...A girl from another 121 carrier (i can't remember which one) applied as a furloughed pilot when she really just quit, and they found out about 2 weeks into ground school and fired her.

In response to giving preference to certain flight schools, we do have quite a lot of ATP instructors getting hired, I think that there is some sort of preference given to them, but I haven't heard that from anyone in HR so I am just guessing. As far as "kick backs"...give me a break. XJT does over a billion $$ in gross revenue each year, do you really think that they are trying to get money from ATP, or would it make more sense that all of the new hires from ATP do well in training? In my class, all of the ATP guys did very well. Just to avoid a bashing, for the record, I did NOT go to ATP for anything other than my ATP written, and I wasn't very impressed when I was there for that, but their instructors seem to do well in training. I went to North Dakota...GO FIGHTING SIOUX!!!

What is the average reserve time right now for new hires?

I sat reserve for 5 months. The last month was on long-call reserve. That may have changed a bit though, since from what I understand they are training more captains per month than new-hires for the time being. It was running 64/64, but now it's a bit higher on the left-seat side with the people leaving for CAL. We are definitely short captains...

Reserve time for me in IAH has been 4 months. Barring an act of god, this will be my last month.

Everyone in my newhire class got IAH if they wanted it, in fact, everyone got their base of choice. However, we were the exception.

From what I hear, reserve in CLE isnt any longer than the others, in fact, one of my buddies said CLE was the quickest base to hold a line in, and that we couldve held a line in 3 months up there.

CLE is the most junior...definately, without out a doubt, no wait now EWR is... hold on, this just in...All new hires are going to IAH. Get the idea?

I guess that makes some sense, but when I was hired in '96 - most of my time was Instructing for the past 3 years....although back then, it was Pay for Training and all in the Beech1900, Brazilia or ATR - no FTD's or Sims...so I guess the company could afford the risk since it wasn't their buck $$$.

I can agree with that policy now though, since they can afford to be picky from the abundance of "time" qualified people to maximize things on a cost basis / man hours spent training for the department..

Just stinks that a blanket policy is in effect for those guys out there who just instruct and could make it through with no problems. But I admit, coming from an instructing (light twin or single prop experience only) point of view to the RJ could be overload for quite a few - not like it's that hard, but the department might not be willing or able to put in the extra sim hours to get everyone to proficiency

If you are an instructor at ATP you can and will get hired.

Can AND Will? Sounds a bit cocky there. Nothing's a guarantee and I'm sure in a years time when our last jet is delivered that it'll take Lunar Modual time to get a job here.

I don't instruct at ATP, but I have a friend who did and is now in training in Houston. He applied 2 months after I did and I haven't heard anything. I'm doubtful I'll get a call for the interview, but I'm still going to keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. By the way, I'm not bitter just envious. I'm very happy for my buddy because he's a great guy and couldn't be happier.

That is the response that took 9 days to get back from xjt. What do you think?

Those allATP guys only know how to do one thing. . . They haven't been out in the real world like the rest of us and done different things and learned by experiencing different things.

Really, what one thing is that? Instructing for a private, inst, commercial, MEL, MEI, ATP, CFI initial (one of the hardest), CFII or instrument? Going flying in a twin with a student trying to kill you even when the weather is IMC? Going cross-country flying to different airports all around the country?

Please elaborate. I'm glad to hear I don't know s*&t.

CLE reserve is not 6 months now at least. I ran into a G5### somin who was hired in Jan. He is CLE based and he has a relief line in May.
