I know a few people over at GIA and all of them told me that the company is closing it's doors. One of them is in the training department and one is a checkairman.

Well - a lot of useful information really came out of this thread.

There's 12 minutes of my life I'm never getting back.

But since I'm apparently going to be furloughed, what the hell.

Just THINK

Why would XJT interview, hire and spend God knows how much money to train the 100's of new hires just to furlough them a couple months down the road??????? Not good sense. Why are they continuing the hiring after the news from CAL??? I have heard from my pilot friends over there that the A/C are staying. THE BIG WIGS OBVIOUSLY HAVE A PLAN!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know what you all are talking about.

The Letter came out today that we are going to furlough 2600 pilots. Everyone furloughed will get preferential interviews at Chicago express, and Atlantic Coast airlines. And CLE is going to close.

Oh no! Don't say that I won't be able to sleep.

Excuse me. I am not stirring anything of the sort. I am simply asking a question. And please, don't say I know nothing about Express Jet. It is pretty obvious what will hapen. They will furlough pilots. I was just asking why someone would still take a new hire slot and be on the bottom of the list just to get furloughed.

Hey the Russian Dressing Go F%$CK yourself and work for chaniqua or mesa D!CK Head. We don't want or need tools like you here.
Better Dead than Red.

Turns out he's not actually Red.

Isn't GIA run by like 2 or 3 Eastern Air Lines scabs, including Peter Clements? I guess the source for all this info are some of their scab buddy '83-ish Lorenzo homos over at CAL.

Yep, saw a couple of the 3rd party's 145s sitting on a ramp today...I love it how they have them painted in all white with blue tails and engines and no company markings......just waiting for the next opportunity to jump on some low cost flying.

XJT is not going anywhere, neither are our pilots...except probably to a different and nicer base than cle, ewr, or iah, and the company is diversifying and becoming stronger...I bet we continue to hire into next summer...

Um, not anymore. Sorry. And what does that matter? I'm sure COEX has had it's share of scabs working there.

Why are you guys treating me like this? All I did was ask a question.

No kidding, this poor guy is recovering from a nasty drinking binge last night folks.

Hang in there.

Nope! Not here.

None of the GIA guys that interviewed in my group where offered jobs, nor did a candidate that was working for a 121 727 operator that paid for right seat time.

XJT is a truely classy place and I am proud to be going to the great state of Texas for ground school.

I think that if you are looking at regionals, expressjet still isn't a bad option. You're a CFI, what do you have to lose, a few months seniority? Might as well take the risk for a good company.

People on here are too hard on you, Russian. I like you, but that's because you think differently than most of the people on here and I'm drunk on a layover. A really, really worthless layover. I didn't even fly for an hour today and I've got a layover. That's so worthless. At least put me in another state.I could rent a car right now and drive home. It would take a while, but I could get there and back by the time I have to leave tomorrow. I hate scheduling.

p.s. I've met lots of cool PFTers.

I have heard XJET had Hired MANY GIAers a few in every group.

I'm sure they have. I am just stating in my group. I for one was the lowest time guy hired with 1050/190.

I honestly don't have a problem with PFT's pilots on a personal level and would never treat them poorly. I do disagree with the concept, because a lot of PFT are reallly PFJ. Especially, when the a/c requires a second crew member, it should be a paid position. Offered to anyone, not a paid position after you paid to build line time in that seat before they hired you.

But hey I know a guy who sold his house to pay for his flight training there and can appreciate the effort he put in.

In the end, I will not rip on another guy for trying to live his or her dream. (except the Freedom 1 or ************************* concepts)
EDIT. G0_J&t

Those guys will get a roundhouse kick to the face :)

I'm sure we have at least a few dozen ex-Gulfstreamers unfortunately but there weren't any in my class, except a dude who used to dx for them who is now deceased (RIP).

I'm not going to spew anymore "my regional is better than yours" BS, the russian asked a question, and the answer is that we are probably not going to furlough anyone within the next year or two, barring something drastic happening in the industry. We are in fact retaining the 69 aircraft that CAL no longer desires to have in their system.

Some of those aircraft my end up overseas with another operator, but at least half of them will remain stateside with us. A loss of 30 or so airplanes isn't enough to cause a furlough at this point, as we are experiencing higher than expected attrition according to crew planning. Crew Planning has stated that we are losing 15-20 pilots per month to attrition.

Our training department is planning to hire 60 pilots per month through the summer, and at least 30 per month to years end.

LUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, since it's out in the open

Not anymore?, did they take a severence package from all those 30,000 dollar Key Bank loans or did they get commissions from selling passengers lives to bleary-eyed kids dying to get into Pinnacle? Well, I suppose I shall interject my ever so humble opinion on the matter. I just think that the whole Gulfstream Training Academy buy-time-in-the-right-seat-thing being run by UNION-BUSTING SCABS is NOT THE KIND OF PLACE WHERE I WANT TO WORK. But, then again, I haven't been flying airplanes under a union banner long enough to say such things. So heck, maybe having a scab for a boss is tolerable for some, just not me.

BTW, the two GIA fellas who interviewed with me back last year, didn't get the job. Man, that was a very expen$ive way to get a "no" from good ol' Dawn.

Because you came on here like a jacka$$ who knows nothing about anything. Yet you certainly claimed to. Didn't pass the interview here hu? Ya, I might be a little upset too.

Lose the babe in the woods routine.

expressjet is a classy place.... im sure there are good pilots at gulfstream and im sure there are alot more ********************ty ones, but they take the good ones and there are only like maybe 20 gulfstreamers. atleast all the guys ive flown with know what they are doing and i dont complain about them. But from what i hear about 50-60 a month to be hired and the upgrades are continuing!!

Russian,

It's not the question that you asked, but the way you asked it. It was phrased in such a way as to say, "Hey, 700 of you are going to be furloughed, now what are ya gonna do?". Perhaps had you said, "I'm really not familiar with the situation, but does anyone know how the loss of the CAL flying might affect your pilot group?". Then you would not have been assuming or confrontational, and any one of us would have explained the situation to you. We staff our airline based on block hours. Our block hours continue to go up by the thousands every month year-over-year. If we did lose the aircraft, we could simply up the utilization on the remaining airframes and absorb much of the difference. Does this mean there may be furloughs? Maybe. You should worry about your house, and we'll worry about ours. If you would like to apply the web address is www.expressjet.com

Cheers,

Box :pimp:
