With all the CAL and XJET pilots (who have flow thru agreements) leaving soon for CAL and with the 30 or so ERJ deliveries remaining...what are the chances for a quick upgrade?

Do you think there is a semi Pinnacle situation that is about to happen at XJET since XJET has been hiring low time pilots (no slam)?

For a factual discussion:

1. What are the minimum flight times to upgrade a XJET?
2. What percentage of guys have been hired with under 1000TT?

IMHO, there may be a chance for a few guys to slip through to CA slots..but on the whole, I'd think someone hired today at XJET will become a rather senior FO in about 1 1/2 years.

What do you think?

It's very hard to tell, but here is the current situation. We have aprox. 100 flowbacks left on property. After that there's another 100 or so that have hire letters from CAL that will be going. After that there is another group of 200 that have "yes" letters from pre-911. These aren't definite yet, but are most likely going by this fall. So you have 400 going to CAL, about 150 spots due to remaining deliveries, and that equals 550. This doesn't factor in normal attrition of people going to other airlines, etc. I was hired Feb. 04. I'm currently 1935 out of 2400+. My number should move to around 1500 by the end of this year. That may have me holding junior, reserve, crappiest base, pee-on captain this year. After that movement is finished, upgrade prospects are anyone's guess. I'm sure if BlueDev is lurking around here, he can correct any of my inaccuracies. As far as a pinnacle situation? I don't think it will happen. All that's required here is ATP hours, and by the time everyone gets to upgrade, I think that they'll have the time. Hope this helps.

WHAT exactly does this mean? "yes" letters, huh?

Yes Letters etc..

XJET had a flow through agreement to CAL. If you were hired at
XJET..you could eventually flow-thru to CAL.

A yes letter means the pilot got hired via traditional routes
not via flow thru.

I belive this is what he meant.

There are approx 113 that have the choice to go to CAL via the flow-thru. There are approximately 169 that have letters of intent to hire. They are referred to as PIGs, preferential interview group. This group was interviewed and did the sim eval after 9/11, if they passed they were given the letter. Not everyone is going.

It's 189 until the pilots who have to retake the sim portion are completely finished, I expect the number to go up.

They are NOT "yes" letters. The letters only seem to indicate that one has passed the pilot selection process for CAL.

Ben Franklin's interview and sim ride took place well after 9/11.

You are ignorant, and now 100,000 more people are ignorant after reading your post.

Mins to upgrade to captain are just ATP mins as far as I know. XJET should have no shortage of qualified in-house FO's to fill any empty CA slots.

I'd say roughly 15-20% of the people being hired in '04 had less than 1000 total time. In early 04 the minimums were still over 1000. They didn't come down to 600 until sometime around summer '04. Currently, it looks like they've raised the mins back up to 1200.

Even when the mins were at 600, most guys being hired still had about 1500 tt on average. So the prospect for street captains or high total time new hires being upgraded over FO's senior to them on the DOH seniority list seems unlikey.

I was one of 3 guys in my newhire class who were 21 years old. Upgrade times of less than 2 yrs do nothing for me anyway, but I'm anticipating being in the right seat for 3-4 years (growth is probably about to slow down considerably).

I guess that "approximately 169" is close to the real number of 189.

Wow I guess you are just so smart. So what is the EXACT number? Do you know how many are saying no? How many are saying yes? Didn't think so. Go back to the kite.

What do you think?

We currently have almost 2600 pilots. All the guys with rights to CAL should be gone by late fall. Then the seniority list will come to a screaching halt. It will NEVER happen that someone upgrades out of seniority here. There are around 100 FO's who haven't bid captain that can hold it. i'd also say the top half of the FO list has been here for 3-4 years therefore have plenty of time to upgrade. Sorry.

Mr. Franklin,

Please accept my apology for even CONSIDERING to be as informed as you. You are obviously an omnipotent, all knowing being. In the future if I suspect you will be reading a specific thread, I will be sure to keep my comments to myself for fear of crossing you and incurring your wrath. I only hope that I have the opportunity to fly with you some day, so that I might kick you in the nuts, spit in your face, and slap you like the b1tch you are. Good luck at CAL, perhaps then you can post on the BIG AIRPLANE boards.

new hires last year up at least untill august were 1500tt 4-500 multi on average. a lot of jet time as well...as far as what i saw. no skipping the line here...

Minimums have gone up anyways...there was only a few months where they were hiring at 600/100....

I have a dream. Someday, there will be a thread discussing some ExJet issue that doesn't denigrate into sophmoric animosity. Christ, "Ben", lighten up! . . . and to those that would post an agitated response to him . . . rise above, please. What a freakin' embarrasment.

First of all, sticks and stones...

Second of all, I doubt that you would have the "box" to say that to my face.

Third of all, I will be in Houston tomorrow at 1405 if you would.

Fourth of all, You were simply corrected on misinformation that you chose to spread on a public forum and you took it like a little baby.

Are you going to kick your co worker in the nuts and spit in their face if they point out something in the cockpit that you're doing wrong? I already know the answer... you'll find yourself in the cheif pilot's office whining and crying about how YOU fukced up but it's someone else's fault.

And, McPickle, I am not unhappy about not being on trip loss anymore - another rumor out of control.

It's too bad that my grandfather wasn't a coal miner, then I'd probably be more educated in life and not be such an idiot.

Better luck next time.

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

You said I was smart, not me.

The EXACT number is 189, plus the people who have to retake the sim portion. As I said, I expect the number to grow as those people get letters in the mail.

The XJT MEC Chairman has commisioned a poll on the calalpa website to find out how many intend to stay or go.

I discovered electricity and aided a revolution, what have you ever done for the world? Didn't think so.

Go back to the Airport PLAYSKOOL set and keep dreaming of flying planes. You can log the time if you make the correct plane noises.

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

Good God you are a tool! Go back to flying kites Ben, it only takes one and it's obvious with your condescending attitude you don't get along well with others. And stop whining about your loss of trip loss pay. Don't you think everyone is sick of hearing about it already. I bet you wear your Ray-Bans when it's raining and after dark cause your so cool. Probably wore a "flight suit" while getting your Private Pilot too.

Hitting the books big time!

I'd be hitting the sauce big time if I were you. Just think, you get to move from Anchorage to Houston. And that's the BEST case scenario. You could get to move from Anchorage to Newark. Or Cleveland. Yea, that's the ticket. Liquor store is on your left.

Hey man when did you apply? and did you attach your resume online?
Thanks

I applied at the end of December. I did not attatch my resume to the normal application, but my company is going through some difficulties and a furoulgh/layoff is projected. So I applied through the furlough link and got a call a few days after that, not sure if that helped or not?

Sure will be hitting the books hard. If I get on I'll be up in Alaska for a while to see how the commute works, but I'll move if I have to.
