I'm looking for a place to stay in Newark. A few people have recommended Blocked Inn. Any other recommendations would be appreciated. I would prefer to avoid public transportation in uniform.

Abort that thought

I checked out the Blocked Inn and after staying there one night I concluded no thank you. I think it's $270 a month when in reality worth somewhere between $150 and $175 a night. Imagine a big fraternity house with no chicks stopping by and 50 year old snorers to awaken you at night. With the amount of calls on the 5 AM Reserve slot from scheduling, I slept in the crew room and bought a Presidents Club membership to hang out if not called. At $425 for the first year of membership, cheaper than 2 months at the Socked In.

I thought you needed a current day's ticket to get in there and you were not allowed in in uniform. Do those rules still apply? Do they have towels there? (prez club) Is the Blocked Inn the place where you have to drive the van if you are just sitting around?

Only Delta Crown Room Lounge in the Skyteam requires same ticket. Presidents Club access allowed any time along with any NWA World Club. Towels are included and is far is uniform, some guys take their ephlats, wings, and ties off and walk in. I find that extremely cheesy and dumb looking; walking around with the flight case attached to the overnight bag in the club looks weird enough. I always carry a light compact jacket in my bag to cover up the uniform along and a a button up shirt for longer sits. And yes, the Stocked (as in increase in stock purchasing power for the owner ($270 x like 80 people a month!)) Inn wants you helping out with the van service.

The Swan in Linden is good.

Don't believe what everyone says about the place... the motel part is skanky, but the crashpads are in a separate building. They're actually one-bedroom apartments, eight spots in each, no hot-bunking, decent bar upstairs from the lobby, and 2 channels of porn on the cable.

Good diner next door, Wendys down the street, New Jersey Transit is a 10 minute walk.

If only every FA actually looked anywhere close to the one on that page. Oh wait a minute, she's probably not based in the politically correct US. As for the Captain, what a frickin' chore to button up that blazer. Is this site new because there aren't many listings?

New Site... Free Site... I try and push people to it because I'm hoping it becomes the industry standard... It makes mine and every other pilots life easier if good information is on a free site.

Dunno?
I did bergen point. Cheaper than most of the others with a free shuttle 24/7 every 30 mins to and from Airport to pad.

Guys,
If I need only a couple of nights - what hotels have Continental discounts and what are the prices?
Thanks a lot

Try Country Inn and Suites http://www.countryinns.com/hoteldirectory/hotelbio.jsp?hotelCode=NJNEWARK&hotelBrandCode=CHI&key=hoteldirectory.info.&origin=Hotel%20Directory&backURI=http:%2F%2Fwww.countryinns.com%2Freservation%2FhotelPreference.do%3FlocationUni%3D4517%26dno%3D11130511140510

they do give a CAL discount, not sure what it is- haven't stayed there in a while.

Bergen Point isn't the best but you have transportation 100% guaranteed with van service directly to the airport. You don't have to ride the bus or pay for a cab. With Newark being the sh*thole it is, you don't want to be screwing around with having to stand at the bus stop at 4:30am. 201-339-3910
