This just in from CNN.com:

http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/ptech/11/26/master.term.reut/index.html

Essentially, an worker out in LA filed a complaint with the equal opportunity office stating that he had seen boxes of computer equipment in which components were labeled "master" and "slave". Here is LA's response:

We would request that each manufacturer, supplier and contractor review, identify, and remove/change any identification or labeling of equipment components that could be interpreted as discriminatory or offensive in nature

It appears that our tech manuals can no longer legally condone the reprehensible behavior of refering to one engine as the "master" and the other engine as the "slave" when describing engine synchonizing systems. How racist! Isn't it obvious that by applying those terms to inanimate objects, we're actually offending living people by somehow suggesting that their race is inferior?

OK, back to reality...come on folks, this is ridiculous.

Politically correct language...

I don't have a problem with certain P.C. words and phrases..."humankind" is a good example.* But this "master/slave" business is B.S.

*Although I'm sure there are people who would prefer "hupersonkind."

....

No its not obvious. Not to normal rational people. Just the small percentage of liberal fanatics.

The computer industry is trouble. Network elements also share the same naming convention. I think an email to UltraLiberalNeedACrusade.com identifying TellLabs, Cisco, IBM, etc, so they and their media bed buddies can blackmail (oops, opaquemail) them into unreasonable changes for the opportunity to make a name for themselves.

I can see the memo now...

"This company supports equal representation and comparable salaries for all female components! Any "glass ceiling" must be eliminated, allowing full professional and salary growth potential of *all* the female couplings in the company."

"Further, suitable male-male and female-female adapters must be made available for any alternative coupling applications."

The County of LA came out with this email last week:

Subject: IDENTIFICATION OF EQUIPMENT SOLD TO LA COUNTY
Date: Tue, 18 Nov 2003 14:21:16 -0800
From: "Los Angeles County"

The County of Los Angeles actively promotes and is committed to ensure a work environment that is free from any discriminatory influence be it actual or perceived. As such, it is the County's expectation that our manufacturers, suppliers and contractors make a concentrated effort to ensure that any equipment, supplies or services that are provided to County departments do not possess or portray an image that may be construed as offensive or defamatory in nature.

One such recent example included the manufacturer's labeling of equipment where the words "Master/Slave" appeared to identify the primary and secondary sources. Based on the cultural diversity and sensitivity of Los Angeles County, this is not an acceptable identification label.

We would request that each manufacturer, supplier and contractor review, identify and remove/change any identification or labeling of equipment or components thereof that could be interpreted as discriminatory or offensive in nature before such equipment is sold or otherwise provided to any County department.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.

Joe Sandoval, Division Manager
Purchasing and Contract Services
Internal Services Department
County of Los Angeles

Well, I wouldn't go that far... :D

I feel sorry for "Ahnold" what a messed up state he lives in.TC

I didn't look at this CNN thing. But I don't think it has anything to do with liberalism. More kind of a black guy with a chip (boulder ) on his shoulder, just like the 2 black women who sued Southwest after they came on board last and a flight attendant said ini mini moe, pick a seat we got to go. Or blacks using the n word everywhere and a non black can go to jail over it. So now everything is going to a primary or a scondary part?
Are we also getting sexual harrasment suits because we have male and female connectors on wring? If you push the male connector kind of hard into the female is that also rape?

It IS a liberal thing because this one particular black guy would never have conceived of filing such a complaint if it were not for the conditioning that has been consistently applied to the black population.

Once again, Dr. King is spinning in his grave.

Wow. I hope those guys never need a break job. I just replaced my "master cylinder" that "controls" those four "slave" cylinders that have to do the dirty work of stopping the "white walls". Lets not even talk about hydraulic clutches.

I'm all for progress and treating others with respect, but when used like this, Master and Slave are just words to describe the function of parts.

Disclaimer: This post is not intended to offend any hyper sensitive left coasters. My views were developed under the hood of a car breathing solvents and exhaust as a child. This combined with non organic food, preservatives and substandard beef may have stunted my intelectual growth making the issue at hand beyond my abilities.

Those **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** Ancient Egyptians, their treatment of the israelites was disgraceful. How about the Roman's treatment of the Greeks....

Hold on, which enslaved people are we talking about here?

You harbor a very interesting stereotype about blacks in America, T.B. Are you suggesting they're not as capable of detecting baloney as "the rest of us" are?

(I will now depart for a Detroit layover and catch up with you tomorrow night.)

On postflight, on the EMB jet, if you turn off the radar before the other guy does, it says "slave" on the dash lip.

I can only imagine how long it will take some disgruntled FO to sue over that one!

No, I'm not.

I'm saying that the 80 or 90% devotion to the democrat party has made otherwise capable , thinking people into the plantation slaves of modern times, beholden to "massa Clinton" and "massa Kennedy" who tell them that their lives will be even more miserable if they don't vote for the democrat candidate.

If you really want some insight into democrat sponsored racism, read some of the books by black conservatives, and find out what happened to them when they stopped agreeing with the party line.

In a nutshell, it is the democrats who, by their actions, show that they believe that blacks are not as capable of "detecting baloney" as "the rest of us".

I am ashamed to say that at one time, I was one of them.

For example, The Ten Things You Can't Say In America by Larry Elder via St. Martin's Press. Interesting read.
