Today, April 29, 2004, the very last Oldsmobile will roll off the assembly line, as G.M. trims its fleet. Although I never owned one of these venerable automobiles, my dad had several "Delta 88's" over his life. Ten years ago, G.M. tried to revive interest in that model with the marketing slogan "It's not your fathers Oldsmobile any more". It did not do enough to stimulate sales. I guess with the redundancy of Olds, Buick, and Pontiac for so many years, there just was no longer a niche for all these clones of each other in G.M. cars.
So, it has now gone the way of the Packard, Desoto, Nash, Hudson, and others, into the halls of nostalgia. Our grand kids will not 'connect' to the Rocket 88 or 98.
