I'm sorry. I just assumed that everyone would think that a society's (one that employs a large number of expat pilots) tolerance of foreigners being anally raped is a bad thing. They're hiring.

Same thing happend to a kid near where I live. Killed himself a year later.

A little perspective

This case has been in the papers here for awhile as well. Things like this do happen and it is horrible. The laws here aren't adequate for punishment in these cases. The treatment of victims is shocking. It is the dark side to living and working overseas, not just in Dubai, but many other places as well.

That all said, it's not like these crimes don't happen in the USA. There is a better legal framework and treatment of the victim in the USA to deal with them, that is the only difference.

No matter where we work and live we are at risk of being victims of a crime. The risk in Dubai is quite low compared to many other countires, including the USA.

Here I walk through the streets at 0200 without any fear of being mugged. Can you do the same in New York City, Los Angeles, Detroit, Houston, Dallas, Washington D.C., or Chicago?

I've lived in NYC for the last 6 years and walked around at 0200 many a time. Safest big city in the US.

Don't be fooled. These people are all the same. Some are just richer than others. Plus, many parts of the Middle East consider homosexual relations between men and younger males/boys "normal".
