FYI

Ek have ceased all pilot roadshow recruitment open days - they have been '...inundated...' with applications.

Respectfully,

Thank god I got my congrats email this morning!!!!

Great job Kenny! Any idea which fleet you will be offered?

Not at this point. All classes are filled through August and the only one of us that has actually been given a class date, was on 2 weeks notice (furloughed ATA). He's been given a 777 class at the end of Sept.

I'm not expecting anything before Oct/Nov but feel a hell of a lot better than not hearing anything from the sand-pit.

Anybody know if they actually tell you "no thanks", or If you just don't hear from them you are not being offered a job. I have been waiting 9 weeks and nothing, not even reference checked.I know some peolpe have called after the "magic" 8 weeks to find out what's going on. Some have left messages and still nothing.

Yes, you will receive a letter/email whatever the outcome.

It can take some time however - sometimes up to three months.

Ya think?

Oh, and bump that "hundreds" up to THOUSANDS!

good luck ya'll and hold on tight. It's gonna be a rough ride.

Congrats Kenny! Still nothing on my end. I know one guy who has gotten a class date from my group and that is all. Nobody else has been given the offer or turned down yet. What was your notice time (I had a month) and was your interview date before or after May 19. Just trying to guage and keep my mind occupied instead of biting all my nails off waiting.

All Emirates is a low LLC flying...close to slave drivers. Enjoy

Glad you think that. Please don't apply with the rest of the drones of people. In fact, tell your friends how terrible it is there so they don't apply either. That way, those of us who really want jobs will be able to get them instead of having Emirates waste its time on people with more experience who don't really want to be there.

Varmint,

Interviewed May 27th, refs checked within a week of my return and got the email yesterday.

I'm on a months notice.

Best of luck......

Greetings all,

Just a quick question.

How is the hiring outlook? Heard rumors that Emirates has not yet seen a hiring boom as the one that is to come once the A380 start showing up. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks in advance,

rfa

Ummm :erm: , They have had a hiring boom since 2002 going from 500 to over 2000 pilots.

With oil prices where they are I would expect a slowdown in numbers if anything. There will still be growth, but until the price of oil becomes rational it would be prudent for the company to be cautious.

It wouldn't surprise me to see the 10 A340-500s disappear concurrent with the arrival of the A380s. Those planes became questionable with oil at $50/barrel. Now that it's $140 there is no way to make money with them. They burn too much fuel while carrying too little payload.

Still, the owners want to see close to 200 airplanes by 2015. That is almost double the current size. If they take advantage of the carnage that will happen around the world there should be some good growth opportunity going forward to make those 200 airplanes a reality.

That would mean close to 2000 pilots over the next 7 years, roughly 300/year on average.

So it's come down to this....

Everybody jumping for joy if Emirates calls. What a sad industry we are in.

Good luck to those who were involuntarily put into that position, I hope they treat you well.

What is that supposed to mean?

FWIW...

A good buddy of mine has been at Emirates for 2.6 yrs. He should be upgrading to capt on the A330 (and I think the A340, as its the same type..?). Anyway, he has 1 goal.....get out of there. He wants to get his 500 PIC then apply at Cathay Pacific. (He says that CP hires captains, with the required time, based in the states). As far as fuel prices go, they basically fly out of Dubai with $1/gallon fuel. And pay lots more for the return flight.

In a nutshell, he does not like living there, and cant wait to get back to the states.

To clarify some of your points:
-On the Airbus you upgrade on the 330, then after 6 months you do your CCQ on the 340.
-We do not fly out of Dubai on 1$/gallon fuel, we pay the market value.

The sharpest captains are usually the easiest to fly with!

Ain't that the truth.....

As for Emirates: They may be the only game in town pretty soon.
Heard the hireing in India is slowing down and some walking papers are being served?

Here at AA we are still waiting for numbers and when they finally come I am sure the stack of CV,s in Dubai will grow taller.

Fair enough, I am just repeating what he told me.

So, if you are flying for Emirates and living there, what is your thoughts about it? Long term career plan, or waiting it out till you can get back to the states?

The PLAN is long term (You never know though...)
I am pretty new here, so I am not the best person to tell you.
While it's not perfect, I personally think Dubai is a good place to live. (Almost) no crime and permanent accomodations are generally very good. The driving issue that everybody talks about is there but looking at the OVERALL package, I don't see where else I could get a "better" deal. I have friend who has been here for over 15 yrs and still likes it while others are looking to get out. I guess it depends on your priorities.
So far I love it, and hope the honeymoon lasts long!

I've been at EK for 3 and a bit years now and am glad I'm here. I used to view EK as a stepping stone but I'm now here for the long haul. Just goes to show that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Cathay does not hire DECA in U.S.A. He has to apply as DEFO and wait for his time. Cargo side about 3 years and PAX I think 8 to 10 years. But Cathay is much better company than EK as you could be based anywhere you want U.S. or Canada.

Thats interesting I know several people that went to Cathay and couldnt wait to leave some didnt even make 1 year.
That just goes to prove the point of one man's trash is another man's treasure...or sumthin like that. Good luck to everyone looking for a job, hopefully we will get some good news in aviation one of these days.
