Does anyone have iny info on UAE Airlines for dispatchers?

Length of contract?

Terms of contract?

Benefits?

Living conditions/quality of life?

Anything else you can add would be helpful. I have a friend who is about to get furloughed and would like to know about this airline as an option.

Are you specifically looking for Emirates out of Dubai? or anyone in the UAE?

I know someone over in Yabba Dabba Do (Abu Dhabi) at Etihad. He'll probably be reading the thread here sometime soon and when he sets the beer down he might even reply.

First and foremost, they ask you in the interview how to spell Emirates. If you miss that, you are quickly escorted under guard to the airport and sent home.

OK, flyjumpseat is right, I will set the suds down so I am able to type with two hands and try to give some serious answers. I've been here in "The Sandbox" for near 6 months now and might be able to help.

Length of contract: You are hired by a "local" company as a regular employee, therefore no contract per-se, but there are incentives for you to stay for at least 1-3 years and disincentives for leaving earlier. You can stay for 20 years if you want.

Terms of contract: There is an open-ended type of employment agreement spelling out certain obligations the employer under law has to fulfill. In addition, this agreement spells out what is expected of you as the employee. Typical HR stuff.

Benefits: If hired by either one of the "Big E's" one can expect free worldwide health insurance, choice of free company housing or an allowance for rent, school tuition allowance for kids, 30 days leave a year with paid tickets back to your original domicile, tax free income up to $87K for U.S. citizens and flight benefits.

Living Conditions and QOL: I live in a company provided apartment and my expectations were exceeded, but remember that you screw up in your job and get dismissed, you are literally out on the street. I don't know about Dubai as I live in Abu Dhabi (about 40 miles apart) but I am very comfortable here and I can get everything that I need. It's like living in a clean, safe, upscale South Florida area. There are many times I don't even feel like I am in a foreign country.

For other takes on this, have your friend read the Middle East forums at pprune.org, read my blog (the url is below my signature), or PM me. There is too much material to relate here.

Howzit going, flyjumpseat!!!

Now what did I do with that beer, dammit?

Thanks!

I have sent you a few pm's from my friend.

My friend read your blog. Very informative and entertaining. The road kill camel story was funny!

My friend has been reading everything available on the internet but personal experiences are much more valuable.

Just staying under the radar as much as possible.

I still got a lot of blanks in my passport - gotta fill 'em up. Suggestions?

Yes, there are some places in South Florida where RPG's would be a real threat. The difference here is that the perps actually get punished very harshly (you don't want to know) so they have second thoughts about committing such mayhem. They are loosers anyway.

My hair is not gray, yet.
