Figured this would be the right forum, maybe not, but I was just at Borders looking up a book for decks, and I stopped and took a peek at an issue of Airways. There was an article on Eastern so so I went right to it, and to my surprise, there were actually still about 6 employees still working on the Ch11/7/merger paperwork up until very recently. Even more surprising, is not only was there almost a New Eastern attempt (which by the way was going to carry a disgusting livery), but the article actually ended with the fact that the last order of business was to sell off the naming and logo rights. They were handed over, and when asked what the plans were, they said it would be hard to find captial for a startup airline, but not as difficult to re-brand the face of an existing carrier....thoughts?

Found this a few years ago....looks alot better then the attempt in the article....

A legend that could not well be duplicated- much like jet Piedmont.......Their time has come and gone.

That definately goes without saying, but the question is, would it actually happen, and if so, who would be in the running for something like that?

I too read that article and was surprised at the length of time for liquidation and that the name might be up for sale. I think the problem with the Eastern name, from a marketing stand point is that it gives the impression of focus on the east coast. I know many brands like Southwest and Northwest have branched out, but back in the day Eastern primarily served markets east of the Mississippi. I think many average Americans have unfortunately already forgotten about Eastern, maybe its time to bring it back!

The "New Eastern" attempt was very public news in the Atlanta area back around the 1994 timeframe, this was just before ValuJet had really taken off in ATL and all those C and D gates were still very much empty. It was pretty big news. Alot of people thought VJ was going to be the "New Eastern"

Maybe it is. In Lorenzo's eyes anyway.

The name for PanAm was sold to an operator in PSM. Not much good is associated with that name around here.
