Eastern Airlines making a comeback

I wish them luck, every airline was new once upon a time. That said, it's a super duper long shot they make it past a couple years.

Same thing everyone said about JetBlue.... I remember jumpseating on ACA and the FO had gotten hired. The Captain was telling him "You are an idiot to leave here for that JetBlue job when your going to be upgrading in 5 months on the RJ." Yep that didn't work out so well for the ACA Capt. dude. JetBlue guy is probably in the top 10%.

The key to their success will be how well they are financed, as well as have they identified their 'niche'. If they have a market unfilled and good financing, then they will make it. Otherwise.......

South, Hooters Air, Midway I and II, Braniff II, PanAm II, National II, Pride Air... Remember Kiwi?

Lot's of attempts, very few success stories. On the plus side, their Chairman appears to be no slouch.

You kidding they probably have a thousand applications already. People don't even know what they're paying or work rules but they see that airbus with the sweet eastern logo and they're in. Probably the best was one of my dad's military flying buddies that went back to his hometown to fly Falcon 20's. Nobody could understand why he didn't go to Eastern or PanAm.

The current Eastern plan says flights to Latin America from MIA.

Well, JB, Spirit and AA are saturating all Caribbean and Latin/South American routes from the MIA/FLL area. Spirit offers very low-cost/no-frills flights.

So, what will Eastern offer the market that Spirit, JB or AA can't and at what price? Will Eastern compete as a LCC as well? The Eastern brand name will only take you so far... And how difficult is it to get route authority into these Latin American countries? What about gate access at MIA? Is there room to grow at MIA?

It's nice to be nostalgic, but at some point economics supersede nostalgia... Bottom line: is there room for another LCC carrier out of the MIA/FLL area?

I haven't seen any actual data, but rumor has it that a lot of flying has left Miami for FLL since MIA drastically raised their fees. I know AirTran did.

Apparently the new CEO has said that they already have training and maintenance support from a major US Airline. What if JetBlue is helping the new Eastern get up and running to only Merge with them in the next 12 months and assume their identity? That's just some of the speculation that's been going around. Interesting theory anyway. Good luck to them either way.

The Eastern name to most people now reminds them of labor strife, lost bags, bad service, and that a$$hole who's future grave shall be eternally pissed upon. JetBlue has quite a loyal following and a fairly good name for themselves in pop culture. Why would they want anything to do with a dinosaur name that hasn't existed in 20 years?
