Do any of you out there know of companies that sell earplugs over the net? I don't have access to crew rooms anymore, and fbo's either don't have ANY or just the uncomfortable kind.
I buy a box of 200 of the classic EAR earplugs, the yellow spongy ones, about once a year. Costs somewhere in the $30 to $35 range. Plenty of places selling them on the net. I'm not sure if this is where I bought them from last time, but check out www.twinsupply.com
Most of the earplugs you find around the maintenance hangars and FBO's come from Howard Leight. They make some great plugs, comfortable and affordable.
The EAR plugs, because of their spongy composition, are prone to collect dirt and wax, and can be downright uncomfortable if they're not warm and flexible before you try to use them.
The Howard Leight's are more comfortable because they have a smooth outer "skin." That also keeps them cleaner, and makes it possible to reuse them for quite a while. They also have the same Noise Reduction Rating as the EAR plugs (33) which is supposedly the highest you can get in a disposable ear plug.
EDITED TO ADD:
Here's a 200 pair box for $22.75 (best I could find in a short search)
I buy them in big boxes from the drugstore. Eckerds usually has them as others must as well. They tend to be a lot cheaper then the rip-off prices that FBOs charge for one pair.
