Anyone know what the training at American Eagle is like? How does it break down, what's the toughest part, the best way to go through it? Appreciate any insight. Thanks!

In addition to whatever helpful posts folks might offer, you can also do a search for some past threads on Eagle training. Also good info at eaglelounge.com

your going to spend 6weeks of ground school in DFW, 1st week is indoc, followed by systems and the last week is simulator training. systems is pretty easy if you had a good studying habit in college. the toughest one (speaking for myself) was the profile in the simulator, i never had this kind of experience before i went there, but i caught up after a couple of lessons. the only thing that sucks about our training is the strike 3 system. if you fail three times your out. passing grade on the written test is 80%. i've been here for 5.5 years and i can't wait to get out. not trying to discourage you but this is how it is.
i hope this help and goodluck!

What do you mean by 3 strikes? If you fail a checkride (then pass) a written (then pass) then something else - adios amigo? Thanks for the info.

there's a couple of systems test, and if you fail any of them that will count as a strike , and if you have any unsatisfactory performance for any simulator sessions, that will also count as a strike, checkrides are the same thing, so you get 3 strikes your adios. for new hires, after 2nd strike the training manager will talk to you and give you an option to resign or get fired after 3rd strike.

Don't get discouraged by some of the negative posts. The training is very doable if you know how to prepare for a test or a training event. You'll be with other pilots 24/7, so there'll be ample opportunity for group study if that's your thing. Also some good opportunities to throw a few back and enjoy DFW. When I went through, the only guys who had problems were really weak on time (suspect a lot of P51) and very minimal IFR exposure. Good Luck.

Just keep a good attitude, stay focused and you'll do fine. Get into study groups. Get to know the 'grey book' but don't try and build the darn thing. Have your limitations, memory items, and profiles down.
It's very good training. They want you to pass. good luck

I thought failing a written or an oral was only a half point (strike)? From what I remember failing a checkride was a full point.

i believe its a full point for new hires, because i remember one of our new hire guy was dismissed after failing a written and an oral.

There is no official "3 strike" rule for probationary pilots. The official "3 strike" rule is for "regular" pilots and it is 1/2 point for training and 1 point for checkrides. After your 2nd point you are given the option to return to your previously held position or attempt the 3rd time, if you pass, no problem, if you fail you are fired.

As a probationary pilot the company can fire you pretty much anytime, for any reason. The most common time for probationary pilots to be fired is during their probationary checkride which occurs in month 10. If you have problems during this checkride they will check with your chief pilot for a recommendation. If the chief pilot doesn't know you and your HI-10 (attendance record) is clean you will probably get another shot. Any blemishes and your life as an eagle pilot is in jeopardy.

Of all the departments at Eagle, I have come to respect the training department the most. If you have problems with the training department your life is only going to get more difficult because all other departments don't care that you may in fact be human.

Don't get into a sweat about the probationary year stuff and your HI10. If you are sick as a probationary pilot, call in sick! Don't fly if you aren't well. I called in sick during my probationary year at Eagle and it did not come back to haunt me. These stories about having a "clean" HI10 at the time of your probationary check or getting fired are just urban myths.

Don't fly if you are sick. They can't fire you for that.
