If you hit a snow covered iceberg you could do it...but it would have to be on an ISA day.

That's kinda what I'm thinking. There's got to be more to it? The early transfer from CA to FO flying makes me think the CA was possibly high mins letting the FO fly enroute? Possible new captain not monitoring the FO close enough and the FO didn't maintain proper airspeed? Seems pretty tough to pick up 3000lbs in 5 seconds (600lbs per second). Thats' freezing 75 gallons per second of ice to the aircraft. Maybe possible, but if so it would be extreme.

I wish I could fly a plane that was certified for severe ice.
