Is it just me or are the Shuttlecrafts and Brickyards and whatevers radio transmissions extra-super LOUD? Without fail, flying happily along, my comm volumes set perfectly for clarity and comfort as far as ATC communication and every other aircraft type is concerned, on comes SHUTTLECRAFT yelling in my ear! What's the deal?

They're still used to flying the 172's they were flying a couple months ago where you need to speak up over thje prop noise. Give em a few years.

I'm sure Republic changed the volume after they got them from USAir just to make you mad...don't be a dumb arse

It's from all the water behind their ears  .

Atleast they dont sound like the United pilots out of IAD. I swear not one of those ugys owns a headset, everytime they transmit its full of background noise and im sure they are using the mic. If i tried that you wouldn't hear a damn thing but props!

Their airplanes probably don't have intercoms, thus they have no use for headsets.

All UAL airplanes us the Plantranics Minitel. The noise you are hearing is big cockpit noises. The 757 is noisy and the 767 is a bit better. 777 is good for noise suppresion and the 747 has the "whale wail". In many years at UAL I have never had a guy use a handmike on the ground unless parked on a ground stop with headsets off.

Anyone else hire folks right out of instructing??

Thought so....f-ing douuuuche...

It may also be attributed to cheerios or other infantile cereal smeared in there ears before nappy time.

BTW whay happened to the crew that belly flopped into IAD?

Nothing............everyone is back on the line, and I believe good old sparky (651) is also back flying now, though somewhat sideways.
Hows the new jobby job treating ya?

You make it sound like they forgot to put the gear down or something...when actually they had a gear malfunction and did a good job putting it down sans a nose gear. What happened to the Jetblue pilots?

Actually the crew overode the manual gear release in IAH and then couldn't get the gear down in IAD. So it seems they screwed up on their own.

I fly the thing and I agree. There is too much feedback. Very loud and not much clarity.

It's only dumb asses that can't figure out to turn down the speaker that have that problem....

...and our super high-wattage brazillian transmitters, so we can reach remote jungle stations.....

I do it because I know it bothers you...... Its all the little things that add up to a blissful day

If your going to use the hand mic and speaker (ground or flight) turn the SPEAKER volume to 35 (or lower) and the RADIO volume between 65-75. This way no feedback and normal transmission vol.

And you know this because you work at Shuttle? So if they did screw up, then it would be a safe assumption that there would be an enforcement action forthcoming from the FAA, and these guys would be out of a job, or at least on some sort of suspension?

Well then, care to explain why neither of these things happened?

Thanks to that incident (I've known the CA for several years, a good guy. Probably had a brain fart), we now have a new limitation in the SOP(s). The limitation saysparaphrased don't push the button until a checklist thells you.

I think they might have gotten some time off. That's how "self-disclosure" works. The company pursues disciplinary action and makes corrections to ensure it doesn't happen again. If the feds are satisfied, end of story. Same reason people with runway incursions would get two or three weeks off. Mind you that was all prior to ASAP. And could be in effect with ASAP if a report is rejected.

The capt and FO are not fired. Both are currently flying the line. They did a fine job.

I find its more of the controllers I have to turn the volume up/down everytime I get switched.

other than getting off the rest of thier trip.... no one took/recieved any time off

What's the point of that button - I mean, there is no logical reason for having it, other than maybe a maintenance function. It seems like a pointless thing to have.
