another question:

When looking at the above pic, it looks like the rudder pedals are separated by a metal divider. Why is it right next to the "inside" rudder pedal?

Could be a weather radar though most aircraft with glass have it integrated with the MFD/ND. Another theory is that it is used to receive a video feed. Really no idea though.

Its part of the air distribution system that flows air, heated or cooled to the pilots foot position. You can't see it in this shot, but there is a control knob near the wemac on the panel to open/close this flow.

The compass is mounted on the center windshield post behind the unit. Look at the base of the pedestal, is that a DVD player?

Its probably one of those extra options that bottom feeder US carriers won't pay to have put in.

It's to monitor the proper stream of chemicals in the contrails.

C'mon Guys Clearly is a Flux Capacitator thats not currently Fluxing!

The Rudder Pedals are separated by a divider, the top of it is either painted black or the lighting in the pic doesnt show it. The white markings are for the adjustable pedals and they are on both sides of that divider

What is the display looking thing just below the overhead panel, on top of the center post of the windshield?

Its a highly sophisticated hypnotizing device. It automatically activates during cruise flight to send hypnotic messages to the pilots whenever it senses that the pilots might begin to think sensibly about their place in the aviation community. The messages usually consist of short blurbs such as: "Shiny jets are cool," "19k a year is a good salary," "You love flying shiny South American jets so much that you will do it for free," "Pensions are for pu$$ies," and "Remember the RJ pilots holy creed-FYIGM (F**k You I Got Mine).

That metal divider, as you call it, is actually a modular console in which the EPTA(Electronic Pilot Training Anklet) system is held. The EPTA is simialar to electonic dog training collars (http://www.mightypets.com/) and is controlled by Hal (the ERJ AI supercomputer). The EPTA is a flexible system that may be activated by Hal or the airline management anytime at either's discretion.

What most of you have missed is the new ERJ PRS (Pilot Restraint system) which is of the quality that all RJ pilots deserve so much. The ERJ is a 9" tall, 3"wide sausage-shaped cylindrical tube with rounded hat-like cap. The PRS systems are aligned vertically and placed in ergonomically correct positions in the center of both in the CA and FO's seats. The PRS comes in several different colors and textures including but not limited to: 'Caucasian', for the average neato jet pilot; 'Bulging Blacksnake', for those who desire a larger PRS; and 'Asian Sensation'-for the "sensitive" jet pilot. All ERJ PRS systems include a vibrating core connected directly to the aircrafts electrical system and can be modified with ribbing "for extra pleasure" so that, as Embraer suggested in a recent memo, all SJS suffering RJ pilots will continue to enjoy taking it up the arse.

Devices similar to the PRS have been used by female adult film stars as props for years in many well known films. However, rest assured that the ERJ PRS is much more technologically advanced than those women's "toys" you may have seen before.

So far we've only got really one, maybe two serious answers to the original question! Gotta love FlightInfo!

I have to admit I have no idea, however if you look at it closely, you can see that on top of the device it does say "Display". There's another word in front of it, but its too blurry to make out.

Atleast this might head you guys down the right avenue...
