For what it is worth, here is the text from my personal check of the National Driver Register and Traffic Records, NDR, in Jan 2004:

"We have searched the NDR Master File and found no records pertaining to you."

My State Department of Public Safety, Jan 2004, check says:

"Fail to obey traffic control device/sign" along with the date from an Out of State ticket I got over 10 years ago.

I have no clue what the incident was about and know for a fact I have had other tickets .... some I pleaded no contest in 3rd party states, paid the fine via mail, and some I went to court and beat in my own home state. So, if that is what the databases show, that's what I'll discuss unless prompted. I've disclosed the one incident on my apps. Never lie at the interview or on the application -- if you are ever caught, immediate termination, closure of the interview, is the most likely outcome. I think you did a good job of walking the fine line of not volunteering too much, but absolutely prepared to discuss. I agree with the post that says ... check you record in advance, you'd be an idiot not too!

For DUI/DWI, Drug or Alcohol offenses. FAR 61.14 - 16 and 91.17-19 apply. Remember, when you take your medical, you give the FAA authorization to do a NDR check (FAR 67.7). If there is a drug/alcohol offense and you have not reported, you in a heap a trouble. If the FAA is in the process of enforcement action or certificate review based on your Failure to Report, you've got huge hurdles to get over just discussing the incident. Solve in advance.

Can you say who offered the job? PM?
