The reson this piqued my interest is that there are strong rumours (and they are rumours only at this point) that AA wants an all-dreamliner fleet in perhaps another 10 to 15 years. The implication is that there will be a widebody 787 for oceanic, and a single-aisle variant for most domestic. This remodeled 737 would fit the bill. AA would not pursue it unles the cockpit was completely redesigned, and there was a common type-rating in place for the variants, like Airbus. As much as I dislike Airbus as a company, their foresight in creating a "single cockpit" concept is excellent. Training costs are brutal when you have 5 or more aircraft types.
 
I read somewhere not too long ago that either HK or GK from SWA went to boeing asking for a 737 version of the 787...and that they would buy a bunch of them. I wish I could remember where I read that. It was within the last 6 months though.
