Does this mean you can or cannot fly over 8 hours in a day. EX: Scheduled for 7 hrs and 30m in one day. Before last leg have already flown 7hrs 50m and last leg will take you over 8 hours of flight time - can you depart?
§ 121.471 Flight time limitations and rest requirements: All flight crewmembers.

g) A flight crewmember is not considered to be scheduled for flight time in excess of flight time limitations if the flights to which he is assigned are scheduled and normally terminate within the limitations, but due to circumstances beyond the control of the certificate holder (such as adverse weather conditions), are not at the time of departure expected to reach their destination within the scheduled time.

What it means is "Legal to start-legal to finish. Section G is pretty clear on this.

This has nothing to do with flying more than 8 hours in a day. You can only be scheduled for 8 hours between rest periods, but you can be scheduled for more than 8 hours in a 24 hour period.

That always screwed me up too.

Just think in terms of 24 hour periods, rather than November 29, 30, etc.

I'll go beyond that. If you were SCHEDULED for under 8 and you already have 8:30 actual before the last leg, you can still take off for the last leg. You just cannot go under the minimum rest for the scheduled time nor encroach upon the beginning of a compensatory rest start time.

The key here is that this reg addresses SCHEDULED flight time, not actual.

Ask the Mesa guys. That company is really good at building shifts blocked at 7:59 with the last leg going in or out of PHL and LGA.
