Is this an old photo?
"UAL, the parent of United Airlines, said it faces the possibility that one or more financiers may seek to repossess their aircraft if the parties aren't able to restructure any of the financings the company believes are unaffordable under a modified business plan.

The repossession of a significant number of aircraft could result in an adverse effect on the company's financial and operational performance, the filing said."

Well, looking at airwhiners, as of April 17th, latest pic I could find, it sadly appears so. I also thought, that some one on the "other" US aviation board mentioned it.

IIRC, it was cheaper for UAL to operate the 74-4, due to lease arrangements.

I may be wrong..But this particular pic is out of scale..

Take a look at the size of the 727 next to the 777..

A cabin cross section of the 727 can fit INSIDE of the engine of a 777..

Doesnt look right..

The vertical stab on the two middle 777s has the same pictal error in two places in the leading edge..

At this distance and lighting the photo has no real reason for such horrible resolution unless its been poorly altered..

Any guesses?

This appears to be a altered/combined digital photo..

Boeing has shown several times at various displays a cross section of the 777 engine inlet with the 727 cross section inside..

As to WHICH section i cant say..

As for me being a dumbass..Im sure that if we were standing toe to toe you would choose a different responce..Im sure you find it much easier to make such statments behind the safety of your keyboard..

But..was that really needed for you to make your point?
Or is that about all you can manage?

G4G5..

What do you think?I see you have time in the 727..

My guess is that the forward section just behind the cockpit is pretty small.

Mike

The picture is for real, look at the link I posted above. United had / has at least 5 in the desert.

"Air entering the engine nacelle is drawn up by the gigantic, 128 inch diameter all composite fan. It is of interest to note that the diameter of the fan and nacelle are essentially the same diameter as the whole fuselage on a Boeing 737."
The 707/727/737 all share the same fuselage diameter.

It's amazing what you can do with a google search. In the time it took you to type "Dumb A$$" You could have educated yourself.

Dumb A$$

Hi Mike,
Too bad that this guy would rather thake the time to make himself look like a fool. Then spend a few extra seconds doing a little research.

G4G5..

Thanks for taking the time to post your research..
I was doing a search just as your post popped up..

While i am at times clueless..I am not an idiot..

For some reason the first picture still looks off scale..May be an optical error..I dont know..
In the second picture..The 777 in the foreground appears to be much larger than the 777s in the background..The 777 seems to compare well to the 747 to its right..

As for the third picture..
Of the three, its the most accurate..

But..With three pictures from two different sources id have to say UAL appears to be parking 777s..

A friend of mine has said the UAL was making alot more with the 777 than the 747-400..
Fuel economy and being able to carry more freight were the two big factors..

Now that they are being forced to operate less 777s and more of the 400s..Their costs may be much higher..

Mike

Well, actually the B727 / 737 exterior is 12 feet 4 inches, which is larger than the B777 engine fan diameter. The interior is pretty close.

I would like to at least nominate lequip for "The Annual Dumba$$ Award of the year", or perhaps the "Egg on face Trophy."

Geez, doesn't take much to get some people's feathers all ruffeled up. After 1 minute of research I have found that a 727 "Cabin Cross Section" WILL NOT fit into a 777 engine, PERIOD! Now we know who the real dumba$$ is.

Could you please post the findings of your research for everyone to see.

Thanks

777

Sorry to get off the subject of who's a dumb a$$. I was under the impression that United in fact does have a hand full of 777's parked. I jumpseated with a few United pilots who were telling me that the were trying to refinance the leases on them. It was cheaper to fly the 747 then the 777 so they parked a few.
