Found a few old "Flying Career" magazines and one article (may 1996 issue) had an article about Comair. It stated that Comair acquired Spirit Airlines and was going to operate it independantly from Comair. I never knew this, does anyone know if Spirit is still owned by Comair?

Comair did not buy Spirit, though they did come close. Comair did own a few of Spirit's aircraft, but they sold them back to Spirit to raise cash around the Comair pilot strike of 2001.

Man, I wish. Comair management at least knows how to run an airline. Spirit management is only trying to hit a home run with an IPO, meanwhile the ops side is falling apart.

Rumor has it that yesterday, we sent an airbus to Cancun, which the Mexican government promptly took into some sort of custody. It seems that we never told them we were going to remove the MD80 that the Mexicans had approved for the service and replace it an A321. It took an hour or so delay while the paperwork got sorted out. That's the kind of disorganization I'm talking about.

I don't know a thing about how screwy Spirit's ops may or may not be, but don't you think it's equally likely that the disorganized Mexican guvmint dropped the ball on this one?
