And how does that inflight internet work anyways? They use just a basic satellite connection or something?

No, BA doesn't have it yet. You can get it currently on ANA, Austrian, Asiana, China Airlines, El Al, Etihad, JAL, Korean, Lufthansa, Singapore and SAS on some appropriately equipped Boeing Aircraft. It works only in the northern hemisphere right now.
