Do you have to pay to submit a CAL online App????

I was all excited to hear CAL future hiring, got everything ready to do the online application and then went to CAL website clicked on pilot positions and then it redirected me to some Airlineapps.com site to register. Then it says you have to pay like 55 dollars a year to subscribe. Does CAL except online apps WITH OUT having to subscribe to them? Just when you hear some good news we hopefull pilots are dealt with crappy deal agian. Thought the airlines did away with those wasteful companies to do there applications. I hope we dont see this crap agian having to pay like 100 to send in an application becuase this time I will be saving my money.

You have to be an airlineapps.com member. It costs $54.00 a year, and you canlist your app with more than one airline. It's sorta like the old upas system. Frontier airlines also uses this site.

You don't need to join. You can submit 1 application for free. Read the directions.

Yes. Read the instructions. ALL of them. Like acbarney said, you can apply to one company for free. So you don't have to join and pay the fee if all you want to do is apply to CAL.

You can solve that problem right away. Simply don't apply to any of those "crappy" companies. No one says you must. If the rules of engagement don't suit you, then no one is forcing you to engage.

This is about the third time somebodys asked this question this week. There's no such thing as a stupid question, but if you can't figure out how to submit an online app in accordance with the directions, how the he|| are you gonna figure out an FMS?

Folks....you only get one free application per LOGIN NAME....if you keep making different login names you can fill out 100 apps for free.....however, there system will not save all of your data, so each application you need to start from scratch and for those of you that have done this, it is a major pain. Hope this helps. BTW from what i understand most airlines used to charge app fees. So do colleges. It sucks but sometimes you just have to do it.

Most of you may not understand the money some of us have spent on this profession and can't appreciate what some of us have had to do to get to where we are. For those of you lucky enough to have a decent job (whether you earned it or were given it!) remember that there are some out there that haven't been so fortunate and some, that money may not be so plentiful for! BTW Yank, what company out there, right now, is really great? And, for that matter, anyone who dreams of flying for an airline, really, has no choice but to participate in the so called " rules of engagement" as you like to refer to them. You are a part of the reason why a white collar profession has become no different from turning tricks on a street corner!

Good post. Application fees are reflection of how the company views it's pilot applicants and how they are going to view you in the future if you get hired. Years ago UAL mentioned they would waive the fee if you had financial hardship. I sent in the App with a W2 that showed less than 10K a year as a CFI/135 pilot. They said since I had a job (not on unemployment) that they required the money. Nice folks there at UAL. Nancy Stuke even signed the letter requiring the money.
