OK...... You have the chance to get your first type rating, huh? Well before you go and spend your money think about it for a while. First, if you have minimal multi time, chances are you aren't going to get to sit in the left seat right off the bat just because you have a type rating. Mainly because of insurance requirements and probably company requirements as well. Second, how many people out there are still operating B-1900's? I know there are a few commuters still using them, but there days are numbered. My advice to you (and this is just my opinion, obviously) is to wait. ALWAYS make the employer pay for your training. That way you can use your type ride as your ATP ride all at the same time, and it wont cost you a thing. I know that PIC turbine time is very valuable, especially in an airplane that requires a type rating. But I wouldn't pay for it out of my own pocket. A good employer will always take care of there employees. Find a good employer and they will take care of you. If you want to go buy a type rating go get a B-737 type rating and wait till you meet Southwest Airlines' requirements and try to get a job there. That's the only type rating that I would ever buy. I hope that I didn't sound rude or shoot you down or anything... Good luck in your decision.
