How do we feel about getting a type and then looking for a job? I have the opportunity to get a cheap cheap cheap B-1900 type, but I dont know if this is something I should be paying for or if I should hold out for the employer to pickup the bill. On the other hand will this get my foot in the door? Finally, the same question goes for the ATP, do I want to get it myself or wait for an employer to pay for it.
p.s. I have minimal multi time. (a consideration.?.?)

Errr....without sounding rude...exactly how cheap is 'cheap' when it comes to the B-1900 rating. One mans cheap is another mans expensive.

OK...... You have the chance to get your first type rating, huh? Well before you go and spend your money think about it for a while. First, if you have minimal multi time, chances are you aren't going to get to sit in the left seat right off the bat just because you have a type rating. Mainly because of insurance requirements and probably company requirements as well. Second, how many people out there are still operating B-1900's? I know there are a few commuters still using them, but there days are numbered. My advice to you (and this is just my opinion, obviously) is to wait. ALWAYS make the employer pay for your training. That way you can use your type ride as your ATP ride all at the same time, and it wont cost you a thing. I know that PIC turbine time is very valuable, especially in an airplane that requires a type rating. But I wouldn't pay for it out of my own pocket. A good employer will always take care of there employees. Find a good employer and they will take care of you. If you want to go buy a type rating go get a B-737 type rating and wait till you meet Southwest Airlines' requirements and try to get a job there. That's the only type rating that I would ever buy. I hope that I didn't sound rude or shoot you down or anything... Good luck in your decision.

Low TT and no multi time...

rent a 1900 and get a type rating??

Man, do something useful with that money and get a nice hooker for the night.

A Beech 1900 type will get you nowhere. I only know of two corporate operators of Beech 1900's(used as corporate shuttles), and having a type won't get you anywhere with either of them. I used to fly contract for both of them. Don't waste your time and money. In 99%+ of this industry, a type with no time in type will get you ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! If somebody wants you to work for them(somebody worth working for, that is), they will pay for any required training.

I second G200's recommendation on what to do with the money.

A 1900 is a king air with crap hanging off. DO NOT PAY FOR TYPES!
Dude, that's not "crap" hanging off of it....those are the Beech BandAids!

"What do you mean it doesn't work like that? OK, so put another bandaid on it - hang another airfoil on it, and we'll call it a STABILON! Who cares if it slows it down 20 knots!"

Falconpilot is right on. The only type I would ever consider is the 737. And I would only do that if I could pay cash for it. No sense going into debt in the hopes of getting a job at SWA. There are plenty of 737 types floating around trying to get an interview.

so what your trying to say is.?.?.?!!!

thanks for the feedback fellas. apparently no cheap is cheap enough for this crowd, and besides yourpoints are all well taken. Ahh, to be young, poor and learning at an exponential rate about how little you learned in college. Didnt I just say that coming out of high school. Well in the end it sounds like Im gonna have to go to the mail room, load the **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** out of my cherokee six, drink my coffee and checkout the local call girl connections.
Quiet skies to all--except those goin to Denver, good luck this afternoon!!!
Ya sidenote if I may- I am sitiing in haines, alaska this morning and as I turn on the TV i see Denver news (formally lived in Denver which added to the irony). Didnt I come here to get away from the world. The man is EVERYWHERE.
