Can any Delta person or anyone else who has jumpseated out of FRA on Delta, tell me the procedure for hitching a ride back to ATL.

Thanks!

1. Go to the ticket counter to pay the departure taxes.
2. Go to the Business Elite checkin desk to check in.
3. Go to the gate and wait for your boarding pass.
4. Get on the plane etc etc...

Thanks SAT74,

I'm also thinking about bumming a ride to Paris next week. Do you know how much the taxes are??

So, I guess you live in Atlanta? I'm sure when you bum a ride to MDW, MCO or BWI you tell the capatin what you think of AirTran, right?

Taxes vary but I have as little as $25 and as much as $60. They only take plastic for paying the taxes, but there are some exceptions.

I do not live in ATL or the area but ATL and Cincy are good launching pad to Europe. I can ride to ATL on any number of carriers from where I live.

I have never bummed a ride from Airtran, don't believe in the 25 dollar price.

BTW, "What do I think"? I don't have anything against Airtran, I just don't want to merge with you guys and you guys don't merge with us!

We did away with the 25$ charge at FL a few months ago.
When jumpseating international on Delta, just make sure you show up 2 hours before the flight. (75mins is a must, but it may take a few minutes to process you if the agent is unfamiliar with the procedure)
Paris is a common jumpseating destination and last time, it was a breeze to request a return home... FRA is a little trickier.

Thanks Delta

Made it back from FRA without a problem, paid departure tax ($60) and got jumpseat pass from the same person, so no need to go to the ticket counter after paying taxes, just proceed to the gate. Got boarding pass at the gate, and was able to talk to captain before he got to the aircraft, great guy!

Rode 10 hours back to ATL in coach (Business class had seats available) I'm not complaining though, I made it home and don't want to sound ungreatful, my connecting flight out of ATL to FLL was a breeze and I got placed in Business class on that leg.

Thanks again Delta!

I am surprised the Captain didnt ask the lead FA to see if there was a seat up front for you! But at least you got on and that is all that counts. Delta has always been my first choice to j/s on.

You should have had Business Elite (our 1st class). That is ridiculous. I would have thought someone would have said something. I would have if you had been on one of my flights. Those old stews sometimes don't care. The Captain should have said something too. Sorry about that.

The problem is that when the gate agent clears the offline jumpseaters automatically (per policy) the computer puts them in coach. Its very rare that the agent will clear the offline jumpseater in biz, even though there are many open seats available. Its happened to me, and then the supervisor has taken it back and reissued it in coach! Rather insulting and very un-Delta like imo.

Seems like unnecessary hoops to jump through and an inconvenience to the crews who almost always have to ask to have them put up front after the gate assigned them a coach seat.

I always ask the jumpseater where they are "seated." If he/she says coach, I ask the Captain if I can ask the A line (head stew) if there are any open seats up front. Before we push, if it is ok'd by El Cappy and the A line (who usually doesn't mind if the Captain says so), then we put him/her up front. Someone has to be the point man to get it done.

Guys,

I appreciate the the advice, and the captain was a really nice guy, but the stews were a senior bunch and just were not that friendly. The crew from ATL to FLL were a more friendly bunch and accomodated me up front!

Thanks again!

Surprising. Not question you should have been up front on both trips.
