Engine fire grounds Delta jet in Washington
Wednesday April 14, 6:15 pm ET

WASHINGTON, April 14 (Reuters) - An engine fire grounded a Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL - News) jet on Wednesday as the plane prepared to take off from Washington's Ronald Reagan National Airport, authorities said.
Airport authorities said the cockpit crew notified air traffic controllers of a small fire in the right engine of the MD-80-series aircraft. The two engines are at the rear of the plane on the fuselage.

The fire was put out by airport fire crews on the runway, and the jetliner, operating as Flight 209 to Atlanta with 127 passengers, was towed back to the terminal.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
