Deltas New Uniforms

ATLANTA (AP) -- Cash-strapped Delta Air Lines has ordered up a makeover of its employee uniforms, hiring a big-name designer who promises a classier -- and in some cases, sexier -- look for flight attendants, airport agents and other workers.

The Atlanta-based airline refused to say how much the project will cost -- a new outfit Tyler created for actor Pierce Brosnan cost $3,500 -- or give specifics about the design. No mannequins or pictures were displayed at a news conference announcing the project.

The potentially expensive move comes amid months of cost-cutting initiatives at Delta, which has lost more than $3 billion in three years and laid off 16,000 employees since the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Andrea Taylor, a Delta flight attendant and union advocate from New York, said she has concerns about money being spent on new uniforms in light of pay and benefit cuts.

"That money would be much better spent supporting the livelihood of Delta flight attendants," she said.

But Taylor acknowledged the current uniforms are not exactly fashion-forward. "We have been referred to as prison wardens wearing them," she said.

That is one of the funniest things I have ever seen on this board!!

Maybe these new uniforms will help attract folks to Song. At least their colors will match the plane's interior.

They are pretty Stylish---just like our people at Thong. You know we like that '70's style---and the only thing we show on our IFE (11 out of 36 planes) are old episodes of Starsky and Hutch----I can't wait for the remake movie to come out soon!! Fo Shizzle!

If I see a Delta FA wearing something like that, I'm gonna be sick. No offense to Delta ladies, but everytime I jumped on them, the FA's look like they used to be hot some 25 years ago, so if I saw them now in what Britney wears, I'd get traumatized.

I agree with "Just call me Jerry" abou the uniforms needing to be changed (the current dresses look like surplus burlap potato sacks from a confederate farmer's market) but I understand everyone's concern that recent pay cuts, layoffs and cries of financial armageddon make it at best a case of bad timing.

So how much will this makeover actually cost? I figure around 20K FA's at 350ish a piece for new uniforms. Double the number of gate agents (?) and you're looking around 14 meelion dollars.

Wow that's almost 2 years worth of Comair pay cuts right there! Why not wait til they are actually hiring Delta flight attendants to make the switch? New hires buy their own anyway, don't they?

Besides we need to save money for more important CEO decisions. Heck its gota almost be time for a new livery or something.

They could also "payroll deduct" them, and that would cost Delta almost nothing except the initial buy costs. But, they still want some of your pay along with ours.....(Will they give up any of their's?) Also, every new CEO has put a new livery on the aircraft--and Leo actually did two---the all white with Aeroflot tail and Song with the lime green spooge.

if I was at Delta, and the company was coming to me for pay cuts while "updating" the fa uniform...i'd be pissed!!! maybe though they'll get rid of the double breasters for the dudes in the future.
