This is a quote from an interview with Gerald Grinstein last week in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Q: Do you plan to book a seat on AirTran's new flights to Seattle this summer? (Grinstein has a home there.)
A: [Laughs heartily] I don't want to be uncomfortable that long.
What is he talking about? Is he suggesting that Delta's seats are more comfortable than AirTran's seats?
According to seatguru.com, Airtran's 737 (which I assume will fly to Seattle) has Business Seats at 37" Pitch, 22" Width. Their coach seats measure 31" Pitch, 18" Width.
Delta flies both 767-300s and 757s to Seattle. The 767-300s have First Class seats at 40" Pitch, 18.5" Width. Coach seats are 30-33" Pitch, 17" Width.
Basically, it seems they are about equal, give or take. But what concerns me is this consistent arrogance that those "cheap discount airlines" can't compete with us. Name one thing Delta provides on these flights that AirTran does not. Plus, you get XM Satellite Radio on Airtran.
Not to mention, on many competing routes, Delta sticks us at ASA versus AirTran. Hum, walking down dirty stairs, out onto the loud ramp, into a cramped RJ versus a jetway into an AirTran jet?
