ATLANTA (AP) -- A Delta Air Lines Inc. executive urged other carriers Wednesday to be careful not to increase the amount of flying they do too quickly.Related QuotesSymbol Price Change AMR 6.85 +0.06 DAL 9.21 -0.08 MS 30.51 -0.09 {"s" : "amr, dal,ms","k" : "c10,l10,p20,t10","o" : "","j" : ""} Chief Financial Officer Hank Halter said at a New York investor conference that was broadcast on the Internet that even if a modest recovery occurs in 2010, the world's biggest airline hopes the industry maintains flat capacity.Capacity is measured by the amount of available seats a carrier offers, times the miles flown.Halter said Delta could eventually increase capacity 1 percent to 2 percent once demand shows strong signs of coming back. He says demand won't really gain steam until passengers feel that the recession is firmly in the rearview mirror and it is safe to spend."People are holding onto their money still," Halter said in his presentation during the Morgan Stanley Transportation Corporate Access Day. "When they are flying, they are flying in the back of the aircraft."Many carriers have shed capacity over the last 18 months. The impact of the recession on business travel has been especially painful for airlines, which rely on sales of premium seats to boost revenue."The challenge for the industry is to make sure we don't come back and start flooding the market with more capacity ... when the demand isn't there," Halter said. The comments came as Delta, based in Atlanta, continues its efforts to lure struggling Japan Airlines away from its partnership with American Airlines and into an alliance with Delta and its SkyTeam partners. Executives from Delta and American were scheduled to be in Tokyo on Thursday to meet with reporters.Delta and its alliance partners have said a billion-dollar offer is on the table to lure JAL from its affiliation with American. JAL President Haruka Nishimatsu has said he will make a decision on the offer by the end of the year.American is working aggressively to try to keep Japan Airlines in its oneworld alliance. American, a unit of AMR Corp., which is based in Fort Worth, Texas, has said that if JAL switches from the oneworld alliance it will cost JAL up to $500 million in lost revenue in the first two years after the changeover. That figure assumes Delta initially will only be able to replace about half the revenue-sharing and other money that JAL currently gets from its oneworld partners, including American.During the investor conference Wednesday, Halter did not address the status of Delta's talks with JAL, saying only, "All of SkyTeam would benefit, as would JAL, if JAL would come into the SkyTeam alliance."Then Delta announces the same day they are adding new flights. Way to follow your own advise, Delta.

Delta, "hey lets go out and buy five thousand 50 seat rj's and sked them all into ALT within 5 seconds of each other."

Delta managers must have attended the AMR Hypocrisy Seminar.

Don't anyone expand now until we get our house in order....

and our fleet rationalized.

More narcissism from a corporate CEO.

Didn't somebody on here say that Delta was going to expand a MINIMUM OF 7% next year????? HHHMMM 1 or 2 percent WHEN demand bounces back bounce back as per this informed exec.... interesting.

Do you ever get tired of signing in and out of crj567 and tanker clown screen names?

You better watch out crj, on your salary you can't afford another $10!

That's like the pot calling the kettle black. BTW, aren't you guys due for another pay cut!

Standard 3% raise again for me this year...

You better keep up crj567! Scrub more toilets, and send more faxes. I'm sure you're worth every penny, literally!

-Yep- They have a long and stored history of doing what is in their own self interest to the detriment of the greater good (Gen Lee/sScope is the perfect example of such bahavior.)

I'm really sorry you didn't get hired tanker clown/crj567.
Don't worry, the application window is open. I hear Delta is also hiring lav "technicians" and "baggage handlers." With all your experience you'd be just right for the job!
Perhaps you can ask your mom for a hug. She's reallly good at giving things out!

Typical Scope response. Don't address the subject. Try and take the topic off in another tangent....and stick head in sand. The discussion is that Delta wages are pathetic and Delta pilots have done about as much as a RJ guy to further the industry.

CRJ567,

You easily fit into this quote from the movie Happy Gilmore:

"CRJ567, how did he do again? Dead Last? I am too busy WINNING."

You stink, too. Merry Xmas, and get back to the fry machine.

You mean the way you avoided the subject? You said we were due for a pay cut. I said we were getting a 4% raise in a few weeks. A bigger raise than you said you would be getting. DAL getting ready to take a paycut was the subject raised by you. Pot, meet kettle.

Um, actually, dickhead, the subject was "Delta urges capacity restraint."
I know having ADD must be difficult, but try to hang in there sparky.

Try and take the topic off in another tangent....
Again junior, it was you that took it off in another tangent, talking about your homophobic infatuation with Song.

and stick head in sand. The discussion is that Delta wages are pathetic and Delta pilots have done about as much as a RJ guy to further the industry.

No, the discussion was about capacity restraint, but since you brought up wages, I can see why you are jealous, how much did you make as an rj f/o last year? Not including what you do in the men's bathroom!:blush:

!:laugh::blush:

The funny part, here Gen-is that you just implied that all Song workers were gay. Your mastery of our native language is exceeded only by your uncommon level of complete mental retardation.

-The first rule of constructing a good insult gen: Don't insult your own self.

-Just Damn.

Again Tanker Clown, try to keep up.
I know it must be busy in the trailer with all the clientel your mom entertains.....
His infatuation is what's.....Oh what's the difference. You're a little troll who makes his money by entertaining men in the atlanta airport men's room!
The origional topic was about capacity cuts....Something you should tell your old lady to comply with!
- Just Damn

Don't try and distract from your error, Gen... You accused Tanker of harboring some kind of "homophobic" infatuation with Song.

Fact is-you are so incredibly dumb that you probably still don't realize that you insulted everyone who worked for Song. Tanker could not possibly have a "homophobic" fixation without the implication that Song people were all a bunch of homos. Maybe they were-but I would bet you flew one of those silly lime-green trainwrecks at some point... You silly Homo!

-Gen, you really should give up on the foolish notion that you are in any way capable of constructing an insult of even marginal quality.

-As an added bonus-it was pretty funny to see you insult your own damn self without even realizing it.

-Does anyone around here need any further evidence as to the complete and
total mental retardation of Gen Lee/Scope?

-You are attempting to operate way out of your league, Gen Lee-maybe you should just stop.

Of all companys DL should not talk, they throw an rj x 10 on any route another company tries.

That's called competition junior! Last I checked, it's still legal unless your little flying club runs to the government about anti-trust concerns...

Talk about a tard, that is YOU Mcfry...... And I don't really care if you are gay or not, but your customers at the Blue Oyster bar DO CARE.

Exactly...why are they giving advice?....United is the one that started the pull back and now everyone realizes they were right!

Not a slam against Ual pilots or other employees, BUT United started the pullback because your airline has ZERO leadership or direction. Tilton and the boys are going to bleed UAL for all it is worth and then merge(thus making millions to go away) or part out the airline(again making millions). Ual parking aircraft has nothing to do with vision or leadership. With the right leadership UAL already had a route structure that could compete with the new Delta route structure. Short of Usair I don't think there is a more incompetent mgmt. team.

and they still have the route structure....and with the right leadership team they will prevail.

Why would DAL advise to not expand...and advise other airlines?.....
