I'm a corporate guy.....about 3,500 hours, 2,000 hours turbine, about 800 turbine PIC. Should I even bother applying? I figure you'd have to be close personal friends with all the chief pilots at this point to even have a chance.....

yes, you should apply. Honestly, most of the people hired up to now have been legacies, former Delta employees (the guy who taught my ground school class ten years ago was hired) and people with great references. However, I have it straight from the mouth of the new hire coordinator that there have been people hired with no special circumstances.

You have zero chance of getting hired if you don't apply.
