How bad are the Teamsters?

Horizon - Industry leading contract

Net Jets (or whichever one is owned by W Buffett) - Industry leading contract

I've got a buddy working in a warehouse making more money than I do thanks to the IBT. Of course he has to work some overtime to do it.

Yep, SPC, DPN, and I plan on doing more going forward, aswell as contributing every pay check to ALPA-PAC. Yourself?

The same. Just hoping for a change in direction. Would like to see DW go away and possibly ALPA as well. Status qou obviously is not working.

I don't think that changing our affiliation will necessarily do anything. WE are our union. The same types of people (like DW) gravitate to the top of thise organizations no matter what anyway..so even if we were Teamsters there will be the same people who throw rocks at the organization...vote no or yes regardless of the issues. If one organzation represents many airlines, you still have conflict of interest issues.....I just don't think it'd make a tangible difference. Although I'm not sure if the Teamster's magazine makes as good a birdcage liner as Alpa's!

We are where we are and hopefully Delta will have a prosperous future once again and we can share in that... if we're smart in our approach.

As airline pilots, we're not alone in the demolition of jobs, salaries and pensions. Many other industries have undergone similar painful restructurings...just ask anyone in the telecom industry. Our union brothers in the auto industry are about to get a big dose of what we just went through too, I'm afraid.

Anyway, ALPA isn't what it used to be (or the legend in out minds maybe) but I think as long as we are union and have active, educated members that stick together, we stand a good chance at a better future.

Glad to see that you're engaged and volunteering. Just curious, how do you feel that getting ALPA off the property would help in the future? Under our C&BLs we elect our own representatives, we set our own negotiating priorities, we select our own negotiators and we ratify our own PWAs?

Seriously. The Delta contract is on a par if not superior to the other legacies.

Why all the fuss?

I believe a change in direction is needed. When you say we, you mean the majority. I am not in the majority at Delta as I voted no for everything except for the strike vote. The people I select and most likely will continue selecting in the upcoming election will not be elected as they have views that seem to be far left from those of the majority. The fact that I vote, volunteer, contribute to ALPA PAC and voice my opinion gives me the right to whine as you call it. How has the majority worked over the past five years? A change is needed. The profession has been raped without nearly a whimper from ALPA. What are you proposing? Status quo? No thanks!

First, I didn't categorize it as whining as long as you're constructive, engaged and trying to make this a stronger union, which appears to be the case. You have an agenda, just like me, and they're probably very similar. Neither one of us got what we wanted, that's just the way it is sometimes in a democracy. I recognize that I probably will never get all that I want, but perhaps through active participation and unity building I might get more of what I want. I see no benefit in belittling my union or my fellow pilots, that just makes us weaker, nor do I see changing union representation from ALPA as constructive in the least. We will, after all, still be the same pilot group. A pilot group I'm very proud of btw. I do, however, see benefit in working harder and trying to build the unity we need going forward and perhaps a more confident pilot group, a pilot group that has negotiated industry leading contracts in the past, once out of bankruptcy will once again negotiate an industry leading contract.

The "enablers" are the majority. How do you intend to have majority follow your lead. I would suggest taking a bigger role, through increased participation, in the running of our union. Otherwise, it's just whining.

I have heard that same rhetoric for more years than I care to remember. We do participate – it’s called Union Dues.

More often than not, people who want to run for LEC/MEC positions have one thing in common with Management – their mentality.

Anytime you ask a LEC/MEC member a question, it is always the same old responses:
1. “You’re a line pilot - what would you know?”
2. “I have all the facts – you don’t – so I know more than you.”
3. My personal favorite – “You should participate in the process so the NEXT TIME we will get a leading industry contract.”

ALPO’s moto should be “taxation without representation.”

There are just too many douichebags on the property that are more than willing to give up their first born child to help out Mother Delta.

We will never turn down a TA/Contract
We will never strike
We will never have any leverage
We will always get the shaft

I have heard from several at Delta that they are seriously trying to dump ALPA for the Teamsters. Any truth to this?

Is General Lee is a teamster?
