Delta to buy 50 wide-bodied Airbus jets - sources
Reuters 19 minutes ago

PARIS, Nov 20 (Reuters) - European planemaker Airbus has won an order worth roughly $14 billion at list prices from Delta Air Lines for 50 long-haul, wide-bodied jets, two people familiar with the matter said.

The order, to be split between the all-new A350-900 and a recently announced revamp of the current-generation A330, follows a closely fought competition with Boeing.

Airbus emerged as the front-runner after it became clear its revamped A330neo could be delivered earlier than Boeing's temporarily sold-out 787 Dreamliner, one of the people said.

Airbus and Delta declined to comment.

From the Seattle Times:

Boeing loses to Airbus on big Delta order

Airbus has beaten Boeing to a big order from Delta Air Lines for 50 widebody jets worth more than $6 billion at market prices.

Delta will take 25 Airbus A350-900s plus 25 Airbus A330-900neos.
The list price value is $14.3 billion. However, according to estimated market pricing data from aircraft valuation firm Avitas, the real value after expected discounts is about $6.2 billion.

News of the Airbus win, first reported Wednesday by aviation analyst Scott Hamilton of Leeham.net, was independently confirmed by the Seattle Times.
Boeing was trying to sell Delta the 787-9, the larger version of the Dreamliner. "Losing is a major disappointment for Boeing,"Hamilton wrote.

Conversely, the win is a huge boost for Airbus.
The order also confirms the market potential of the A330neo, a re-engined version of the current A330 that was launched in June at the Farnborough Air Show near London.

The A330neo will likely be flown on transAtlantic routes.
Atlanta-based Delta is now the second largest airline operating out of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The A350-900 is a long-range plane seating more than 300 passengers that will likely be used out of Sea-Tac on transPacific routes.

Wow! Great news! Boeing will get a great look at all of the Delta A350-900s flying to Asia from Seattle in the future.

Does anyone know if the A330Neo will use the standard A330 cockpit or will it incorporate some of the newer A350 avionics?
