If you're only going to sell 21 seats on the Saab, why not just serve it with a 1900. The King Air wouldn't likely face the weight restriction the Saab does.

Mesaba only operates the Saab 340. And those will all be returned to Saab Leasing by 2012. Also, Delts does not have a Connection Carrier that operates a 1900. I suspect there was a lot of response by the locals which prompted DAL to respond.

Ahhh...gotcha. Wish those locals would get us another 1000 feet of pavement down there. Plenty of room to the north. Have to shift Beach City Road, but that's no big deal.

The locals want their cake and they wanna eat it too. They want the convenience of 121 airline service, but they won't budge on extending the runway. They have tried to get it extented, but the majority of the locals won't have any part in it. They believe that with a longer runway, that will mean a lot more air traffic (GA included) which will turn their quiet little island into a thriving metropolis.

Seven dont be confused the locals want a longer runway.. It is the corrupt mayor and his handpicked town council cronies that are executing their agenda..

Latest scam is a zoning change on dylan road and a push for some commercial properities off the end of the runway..

I thought KSAV was the new Savannah/Hilton Head/Tybee Island/Beaufort Airport!! Guess not, huh?

It is, but for some reason, the blue-hairs on HH want their own identity....and it's ok if they can go an come on some POS turbo prop...all about convenience to the old farts.

Mesa has a bunch of Air Midwest 1900s parked..I'm sure Delta would looovvve to work with Mesa on another contract!!...NOT

I'd settle for a glideslope being thrown on the existing LOC...although another 700'+ of runway (or at least cutting the damn trees out of the clearway) would be nice.

Someone used to operate DHC-7's and -8's out of there many years ago.

The locals need to realize that the genie got out of the bottle 20+ years ago. HHI is not some quiet little hideaway. It is a commercial gala that attracts folks from all over the easter United States and many from abroad.

US 278 has been a nightmare to travel on for a couple of decades now, and allowing some larger planes in there could contibute to traffic relief in the bottleneck that is the entrance/exit to the island. The cross-island connection has helped, but the real problem is in the first 5 miles...before the cross-island begins.

Also, the planes that would be allowed with a longer runway would likely be quieter than the ones that are able to get in and out of there now.

Seems DAL could find an operator with equipment better suited to the task than blocking 30% of the seats on a Saab.

If DAL was run by people who had the common sense to locate thier own ass whilst utilizing all available appendages, they would have come to this same realization long ago....

-Seems like I remember some ATRs used to fly down that way.... Hmmmm.

It'll be a tough fight to extend the runway down there. It is easier to kill a person than a tree on HHI.

We all know how good you are at finding ass, you just reach around behind your latest customer while you are on your knees!

Did you used to service the lavs on those airplanes as well, sport?
