Yea. The always popular "but WE (fill in the blank with any of the majors' regional partners) are making money". One of the weakest, lamest arguments out there.

Ever wonder HOW or WHY these companies are making this "so-called profit"? Do some homework next time.

Or see "Fly-I" if you prefer to see how it is NOT possible to make a profit using RJs if YOU are the one footing the entire bill.

There are many other factor's as to why FLY-I is not making money.

Let's look at the profitable carriers.....

1) SWA, no RJ's
2) CAL, XJet RJ's sold off and contracted out. Nice hubs in IAH and EWR that aren't overloaded w/ RJ's. There's actually some nice
Boeings to look at.
3) AMR, scoped Eagle RJ's big time, and still operates gas sipping turboprops like ATR 42/72, Saab 340, and BA31's.
4) JetBlue, no RJ's.
5) AWA, contracts out RJ flying to Mesa. Still operates Dash8's

Is there a pattern??

1) ok
2) whether or not CAL owns them, there are a ton of regional birds feeding them
3) see #2
4) E190's coming very soon if not already
5) see #2 then #3.

Subsidized operation + guaranteed revenue that exceeds costs = RJ profit.

Exactly, ASA and CMR don't have the overhead of operating their own code, we simply reep the bennies with out all the sacrifices. I compare it to this:

A father and his two sons have a ton of work to do around the house, whichever son does the most work gets the bigger allowance which motivates the son that did the least to do better next time. However, both kids spend their money on gas for Dad's car (in which Dad simply re-coop's his money) and they stuff their faces with pizza, burgers, a potatoe perhaps ;-), and booze (Dad still re-coops because now he doesn't have to feed his kids as much and they don't steal his beer). However, Dad still pays the mortgage, car, etc. and the kids get the feeling of being independent, but they still depend on Dad's allowance.

It is all one big circle, and if the kids told Dad to F off (read ACA) they would find themselves on the street with not even a pot to piss in.

Time for another glass of wine!

Cheers

2) That's right, CAL doesn't own them...Your point?
3) AA doesn't even compare to DAL in the RJ debacle. AA is not only bigger than DAL, but has a fraction of the RJ's than in the DAL system. AA has scoped 70 seaters to only 25 total...throughout the whole network. That's 5 major hubs. SJU doesn't have any RJ's. MIA has hardly any, in fact only ORD is strict RJ. Not only has scope limited 70 seaters it has prevented more 50 seaters.
4) What makes a E190 a RJ???
5) tons of RJ's feeding AWA?? Really, if it's tons of RJs feeding AWA, how would you describe the situation at DAL? Yep, the more RJs, the bigger the losses. Guess why Airtran dumped them?

Amazing, the airline with the largest rj fleet has the largest losses!

Amazing, the airline with the most POS 737-200's still in service and the most jackasses working for them has the largest losses!

Oh PLEASE dont tell me that you think the E190 is an RJ!

No, but JetBlue is a regional. At least they pay like one for the "not-an-RJ EMB-190."
