737Pylt is correct. Even if you are DCI and can see the loads, you cannot list yourself. You still must go to the gate like everyone else and take your shot. After my reserve yesterday I asked my crashpad roomie to check loads out of LGA back to ATL for me. Every single flight was oversold to the tune of at least 20 or more. The 2pm flight I was trying to hop on had 73 standby's listed. That is not a misprint either. I gathered my toys and headed out to spend the afternoon and evening trying to get home. I got to the gate around 1:30, waited inline for about 15 min and politely asked if anyone had signed up for the jumpseat. She checked, said no and asked if I would like to go. I had the form already filled out except the flt and date, finished it and went out to the plane. The number one recognized me from ATL, smiled and asked if I was heading home. I said yes I was and asked her permission first and then headed up to the front. The crew was great and the FO actually had jumped on one of my last RJ flights for ASA!
You just have to go to the gate and takes your chances like the rest of us!!
Doesn't always work out like this one did but then again, it IS commuting!!
Thanks DL guys!!!
