I doubt Delta's Ch 11 plans have anything to do with the DoJets. IF they file, of course they will try to shed the responsibility, but it won't cause or contribute to them filing. The Delta shareholder report says if Delta terminates the agreement with ACA (which they did, or will in a week I should say) they have to take over the leases or buy the planes at fair market value.

What is the value of these POS's, around 4 mil each? Big deal. Even if they have to take over payments at the original terms (not how I read it from the report, but who knows) its still not that bad.

While I believe SWA/FO's comments are a little on the insensitive side, AA717 was correct as well. We have been the brunt of many other's arrogance too many times in the crew van. Unfortunately, pilots don't grow out of their egos as early as everyone else.


I wish no ill will on anyone. As an ATL resident, I am affected (local economy)by what happens to our friends over at DAL not to mention I see the direct impact on many of my friends who work there. 32.5% is a nasty cut for anyone to bear (% from a different thread) when you have a lifestyle built on the previous salary.

My prayers are with the families at DAL.

Leaders of Delta Air Lines' (DAL:NYSE - commentary - research) pilots union have approved a tentative package of concessions and will send it to rank-and-file members for a vote.

The agreement could help keep Delta from filing for bankruptcy protection. Like other carriers, Delta is suffering from high fuel prices and stiff price competition, but has also been trying to reduce its high cost structure. Delta is bleeding cash and scrambling to restructure some of its $20.6 billion in debt.

Union members will get a chance to vote on the deal, which is estimated to offer Delta $1 billion in annual savings, beginning Nov. 1. Voting ends Nov. 11. The deal provides a 32.5% wage reduction from May 2004 levels, effective Dec. 1, with no increases for five years. It will also freeze the pilots' defined benefit retirement plan and give them a new defined contribution plan. Who said that? I don't doubt there may have been some arrogant Delta pilot jerk in a crew van who may have said that. Just the facts: nobody from the Delta ALPA MEC ever said they were going to "hold the line" or "save the industry." Their goal was always simply to do what's best for the Delta pilots, which requires a healthy Delta Air Lines.

Many Delta pilots have reported enounters with pilots from "restructured" airlines, where they emplored us to "hold the line." I find that a little disengenuous and hypocritical. We were never going to "take one for the team" by holding out and forcing bankruptcy. Contrary to popular belief on this forum, our leadership, and our pilot group as a whole, is simply not that stupid or arrogant.

I know some furloughed guys who are flying for Jet Blue in the interim. They tell me that many of the captains there are the cockiest, most arrogant jerks you'll ever meet. On the other hand, I persoannly know several Jet Blue captains who are good guys. Let's not paint with a broad brush because you may have ran into a jerk hear or there.

I went to the local Italian place in town tonight to pick up some dinner for me and the wife, and sitting beside me at the bar was this guy wearing a SWA baseball cap. He is cursing left and right to his wife how theres no f-ing way he is going to try to get four people on f-ing Delta during the f-ing holidays on non-rev passes. I was noticing that there were alot of people taking exception to his tone and verbage, so I had to ask...."do you work for Southwest?"(baseball cap)

He replies, "no, I work for the OTHER airline".

I ask? "what airline is that?"

He replies, "Delta"

I ask, "why are you wearing a SWA ballcap:?"

He replies, "because thats what they want to pay us like."

"Hark!" I exclaim, "that must really suck"

I didnt care to take the conversation any further with him, nor did I tell him I worked for southwest, I just wish he would have taken that hat off before he made an ass out of himself in the restaurant cursing and carrying on the way he was.

I didnt bother to say anything after that, but I sat and pondered the many angles possible in his statement.

Either way, sucks to be him in his mind........I guess

Quit being a tool. Karma can be a terrible thing. Be happy that you work for a strong carrier, but Delta was very strong a few years back. Things can change fast.

I saw on one of those cable financial channels that it is a 35% pay cut. They didn't mention work rule changes, but there must be many.

Bondholders deal is in the works. See GE, DIS. News will be announced in pieces. Piltot deal and debt renegotiations were contingent on each other. $50 oil is very short term. Unless we have a horrific winter oil should be below $40 soon and mid-low 30's by mid next year. Can't beleive there are still naysayers out there. You have to look five years ahead, not five months. DAL and AMR will be strong competitors in the future because of these deals.

If you people would have looked at cash flow for the last two years and not manipulated numbers you would see the potential there. Oil was a wildcard and that put a dent in the plans, but the company was not far off from profitability. Both parties win with defined pension. Just watch the stock for the next several months/years. Stop buying everything the press is selling and do some research. Maybe next time you won't miss the boat.

30 million at 6.00 = 180 million. Makes you wonder how far off they were months ago when they offered 700 million. Unfortunatley, the 30 million will dilute the share price a bit and limit the pps a while. However, with frozen pension benefits I see it as a win for DAL pilots. Just look at what UAL is trying to do. I would imagine they would probably get a 10-15% discount on the shares too. Not really any of my business, but as an outsider it looks like they did well. Anybody know if they were awarded a seat on the board?

I was appraoched for an interview with the local news today on VA ave. I declined but some homey in a pimp suit driving a porsche claimed to work for Delta happily did. The first question was about the pilot pay cuts. Didn't hear what he was saying but I don't even think he worked for DL. I am embarassed for this city and its news channels.
