Heard a rumor today about DL cutting a big batch of pilots as of Jan 31st . Anyone else heard the same thing?

Delta Furlough

Little Bubba:

The DAL MEC message e-mailed out today said that 30 would be furloughed on January 1, 2002 and 30 more on January 31, 2002. Hopefully they won't get near the 1700 Delta keeps throwing out to the press.

Holy necropost Batman!

Holy crap! I thought I was re-living the whole post-9/11 downturn over again!

Um... have you not been paying attention? Continental, NWA, US Airways, UAL... all furloughing. JetBlue lowered the cap to keep from having to furlough. Even your own illustrious carrier is floating rumors of furloughs. Even some commuters are furloughing.

This downturn is going to be as bad, if not worse, than the post 09/11 downturn.

Sadly, you are indeed correct.

Hi!

Saw a post headlining DAL hiring this fall for 777 arrivals.

Not poor taste. This actually dwarfs 9/11, if you couple the fuel prices of today. Not talking about loss of life, etc so don't start.

This is not like reliving the post 9/11 downturn. The causes are different, there is no good reason for the gov't to bail out the airlines like they did then, nor should they, ATC zero was never put in place, and no one is dead. About the only thing that this has in common with the post 9/11 downturn is airlines are furloughing. I am entitled to my opinion that comparing anything that happened because of a terrorist attack on our country with a economic downturn caused mostly by criminal manipulation of our markets is in bad taste. This is not the first time that airlines have furloughed, nor will in be the last. Airlines hire until they furlough, and they furlough until they hire. It is a vicious cycle.

This is just like living through, well, right now.

Just nobody get snookered into thinking that cutting our pay is going to save an airline. It won't, our pay is a minuscule cost of doing business.

If you cave on pay, ever again, you don't deserve your job.

Did they all get called back yet?
