lol I was laughing my tail off when I saw that ad in the USA TODAY. What a waste of time. Each and every one of us has volunatrily accepted the terms we work under, except comair and mesaba. So that is what your dues go to? "Educating" the public on "how little" we make when we all voluntarily accept the jobs? Basically its saying yea we accepted the job but now we are complaining. All that shows is that decisions were not thought out very carefully.

The ad also left out what the pay scales are after the first year. If I was an ALPA member i would be pissed off. A full page ad in the usa today is not cheap. What a waste of your dues. Sorry guys but thats many thousands of dollars that could have been used somewhere else. You should all be very upset about this. Oh ya btw no thanks on ALPA at SkyWest.

Management puke trying to post as a pilot. Won't work loser! Back to your little cubicle and the internet!

STRIKE The ASA Division of Skywest Inc!

Wow guess that is how pilots with a different opinon are treated. They are labeled management or whatever else you come up with. Yet another reason the ALPA drive will fail.

I like the end of the ATL newsclip where COMAIR says downing the mins is not a safety issue, and then they say the FAA says experience weighs very highly on their decision to up the age to 65... but that's a whole nother issue.

I think 250hour pilots paired with 65 year old Cpt's would work just fine! ohh and by the way Skywest will buy CMR within the next month! After they impose the cuts! TAH ta!

What other media venues are you talking about? You have already been on TV in ATL and Cincy. what next .....ohhh no don't event think about it....are you going to the internet? If you screw up Delta bookings, I swear that will be WAR!

I thought the ad was the first useful thing I have seen ALPA do with my money. Maybe the public as a whole doesn't care too much, but I guarantee that ad caused a stir in the Delta boardroom.

Nay sayers

You missed the point of the ad, but that is not surprising.

These pilot groups are saying shame on you(company) for asking for paycuts(Comair) and for suggesting we(ASA) have a "Zero-net-gain" contract after four years of negotiations.

But nevermind, your to shortsighted to see things for what they are.

So what will you say if it passes?

You are not treated this way because you have a different opinion. You're being treated this way because you're holding an unpopular opinion and throwing it in everybody's face. It's your method, not your message that makes you a jerk.

That decision is up to each individual pilot group. I can assure you that at SkyWest we think we do just fine. Look at APC for our pay rates and there is your answer. Well for our pilot group anyway. You see each pilot group votes in what they think is fair. If the pilot group thinks it is a fair wage then that is what they should make. Remember work rules, etc all come into play besides a payrate. You have to think outside of the box for these issues.

Judging by the number of people that bitched about the crappy 1% payraise and "override" proposal but voted it in because "its better than nothing, which is what we'll get if we vote it down", I'd say the vast majority of your brethren at Skywest are NOT pleased with your 70 and 90 seat compensation.

Sure the flying public may be unaware of the wages of first officers in the regionals, but they could care less as long as they get a cheap ticket.

The only way the public will care is if their flights are cancelled or delayed. No picketing, full page ads, or any other propaganda will work.

I don't understand how other unions (teachers, bus drivers, electricians) can call for immediate work stopages and are able to have their demands evaluated. If we were to try that it would be "illegal".

WTF ALPA?

You should be saying "WTF Bush and Congress".

ALPA is constrained by the Railway Labor Act, the federal law that says airline employees (and railroad employees) may not strike until the National Mediation Board allows them to.

Other unions (teachers, bus drivers, electricians) are not governed by this law and MAY strike as soon as their contract expires.

Ask your congressmen why the RLA, an antiquated law from the 30s still exists. I'll give you a hint. LOBBYING MONEY FROM AIRLINE MANAGEMENTS.

That said, I agree 100% with your first two statements.

I would like to thank CFIT and Dirty Sanchez for their assistance in our efforts to remain competitive in the face of the unreasonable and extreme demands of ALPA. Its people like you who make the Vision possible.

Your a moron.

Of course he is. He's the ASA "System Chief Pilot" with 5 years of actual line flying experience and a seniority umber of 1500 out of 1700 or so.

Good for them! The general public needs to know how little the pilots make. It may hurt their sex lives a bit, but in the long run mgmt may be forced to deal with the gen. public's fear of flying. It's a long shot, but it's a step in the right direction.

I have always maintained that starting pilots should be paid around $30,000/year start, but then they should also be made to work 160 hours/week. Why do you think you should be paid lot of money for doing less than 100 hour of work/week.

I hope the managements of all the airlines look in to this...raise the pilot pay, but then make them work 160 hours per week. Whatever time is left after flying, should be used towards like office work, working with training, or anything other agreed work available.

I fly full time for a decent airline, and my other non-aviation jobs take most of my time. My average work-week is over 170 hours/week, and I have never had problem with money, paying my bills and that was the situation even when I started out in aviation.

*Yawn* More flamebait. Doesn't even dignify a response.

You *do* realize there are only 168 hours in a WEEK, right???

Stop it! A small technicality like that doesn't matter to SkyBunny. This is the same guy that says he flew a Beech Baron but can't even spell it.
:smash:

Tell us SkyBunny, what "decent airline" are you flying for now?

Making them aware is one thing. Making them care is another.

Sad but true! No one gives a sh!t...... We are a me me me society and all 99% of the people care about is how cheap their airfare is. Then complain later about quality of airport, flight, food, blah blah blah.

Good luck with your continued efforts.

I'm sure it came as a shock to the Australian carrier, Skywest, to learn that they were the parent company of ASA and not US carrier, SkyWest Airlines, Inc.

Could this be the reason ASA hasn't been able to negotiate anything since the sale? haha

As others have said, the only way we can stop this is by educating the CFI's and prospective pilots. They are the true problem. All the lowball airlines keep expanding, guess who's feeding that? THe low time people who don't understand what they're getting into, and don't care at first unless they have a quick upgrade or can fly a jet. THat's the weak link for us pilots, and that's the only way to stop the downward spiral (or else just wait for economics and supply and demand to find a balance, which may not be in our favor). The passengers in general couldn't care less, as long as their tickets are cheap and planes aren't crashing.

Planes are crashing. Unfortunately, ticket price outweighs safety and no one dares connect the two

I liked the part on the bottom where ALPA is blaming Delta. Don't DCI carriers have their own MEC's. Do they not negotiate their own contracts?

What am I missing?
