I ask our FA about the food sales on each flight. And the bad thing, like I said, it will not by quantified until the fare increases are reported at the end of this quarter.
Simply put we are getting revenue from other places.

800 million loss based on old plan at 100 a barrel. New plan should clear 150 million at 105 a barrel-so why mess with it?

Okay, so you have food sale numbers. How do you know how much people are paying for tickets?

Simple. You can talk to any of the people that work up in marketing. They are more than happy to talk to people when they have the time. I have done it on a few occations.
We were breaking even on the domestic market last year. This year will more than likely be in the red by a lot. That is why you see us nickel and dime everyone domestically. We are trying to cut our loses.
Our profit will come from the international traffic.
I am not saying that there is s silver lining. For some reason all of the network carriers seem to think that they cannot charge more for their product. We are charging for things that we should not be charing for. What DAL is doing right now with fare increases and service charges is experimenting. We are trying to find the fine line on consumer tolerance. Kind of like the difference between whining about gas prices and actually changing our habits. It is new ground and I am glad to see Delta doing this. Leading is something new here, and I like what I see.
Go up there sometime. Oh yeah you do not work for us.

I think that if we charge extra for overweight bags and can get away with it, then why not charge extra for obese passengers? What cost's more fuel a bag over by 1 lb or Joe Fat ass that is 325?

That would be discrimination. You would have the ACLU all over you.

It's not "discrimination" when I pay more money to ship a 50 pound box than I do for a 25 pound box. It's good business.

Why should it be "discrimination" to charge an obese slob more than someone who's not a tub of lard?

By your analogy then a Chinese buffet could charge a normal person $5 and an obese person $10 because they would eat more. While I don't disagree it is a better business practice there is no way it would fly.

Okay, I guess I understand. I still don't know how you know what your airline made on a particular leg that you flew, but if you believe you do, than I guess that works for me.

Not necessarily a valid comparison.

I'm skinny and I eat as much as your garden variety fat guy at buffets from time to time.

Fat folk should pay based on how much they weigh, not how much they eat.

The airline business has been, is, and will forever be a cash flow intensive business. This is the same complaint we have always had. Just charge more. One year, a buddy of mine figured that if we had just charged every passenger we flew that year one more dollar, we would have made a profit. The problem is the way tickets are bought now days. If Delta or any airline plays lone ranger on a fare increase, they loose position on the search engines. Losing position for even a few hours has serious repurcussions to cash flow. That's why adding fees for checked baggage etc, genrates more revenue without causing you to lose position and thus cash flow. I hate what is happening, I am glad I am out of it.

Forgive me, but if you "hate what is happening," why are you here gloating? If you are happy doing something else, let the rest of us struggle without the indignity of your pompousness.

Several months a year in the sandbox is nothing to brag about either, man. I've been there too. Let me know how your kids turn out after growing up with their dad gone all the time.

Gloating?

If I and about 2500 of my compatriats hadn't left there would still be furloughs and the seniority issue with NW would be a moot point. As for the sand box, not here pal, I didn't have to and my wife and kids are glad of it.
