Airlines with hubs at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport are threatening to pull out over new lease agreements, according to The Associated Press. Reports say Delta Air Lines and AirTran Airways are considering moving their connecting flights to other airports if leases at Hartsfield-Jackson are too high.
As of today, neither carrier has confirmed they will pull out of the airport altogether, the news agency adds.

Tad Hutcheson, a spokesman for AirTran, told the news provider: "We look at each flight on a flight-by-flight basis and airport costs are huge components of the cost to operate a flight.
"And if those costs become uncompetitive, we will take actions up to and including canceling a flight or moving it to another city."
The current lease will expire in September 2010.

I know PIT would love to have either one of them....plenty of empty gates.

Southwests days of taking over are gone..They no longer have the fuel advantage and they have (by default) no longer have the labor disparity they use to have. While still the best run airline they are now just another large stagnent airline..

This would be a perfect opportunity for WN to come in and take over ATL.

Well the airport and the city of ATL are in trouble with the bond market. They are going to get it from somewhere.
Then the companies will try to get it from us.

Watch DAL they will move flights if they have to. With the merger they have a lot of opportunities for other hubs.
I am betting that nothing happens, but the city of ATL better wake up and reduce what they are asking.

Ding Ding Ding! You are now free to take a paycut!
