So instead of asking where guys would rather be they assign it and then let people bid off before they are even out of training?!?!? This seems like a HUGE waste of money and time. Training someone on MD88 NYC then letting them bid 73 ATL while in training.
Why not save the expense and ask first then assign....

Sinca...Airlines, logical decision making, saving money? C'mon!

Where are some of you guys staying for training??

Before all the anti-instructordude guys chime in here, congrats on the job if you really did get it. Most guys are finding a local crashpad for $200-$250 per month. If you are loaded you can pony up about $60 per night to continue your stay in the luxurious Comfort Suites. I'm sure there are some guys on this board who would love to help you find a great place to stay. :)

Then nobody would select certain planes in certain bases. This is all thanks to our contract. Remember, we did give up the 1 year seat lock on any plane to 2 years now, so that does save the company some money. USAir East, for example, has no seat lock at all. Guys could bid from plane to plane at will. Our contract allows newhires to have no seat lock on initial aircraft assignments, which is a good thing. After that, you have a 2 year seat hold. I think United has a 54 month hold on narrowbody aircraft.

Bye Bye--General Lee

They are worth up to 61 hours in 9 days.(late start first day, and mid afternoon arrival the last day--very commutable)

Hmm, those 61 hours include about 20 hours riding in First Class eating 5 course meals and watching the movie....?

Boy, I miss those days on the B-767 playing FB.
